Post by Sir Henry » Fri Mar 25, 2016 6:05 pm

Most of my rifles have been modified to some degree. This picture shows the four different lever sizes I have.

I may start a thread on vintage Weaver scopes. I have a dozen or two on Henrys, Ruger 10/22's, a few vintage Winchester rimfires and some newer CZ's.

That would be an interesting thread on the vintage Weavers.
I vote "yea."

Quick Q. You mostly have rimfire rifles, Sir. Do Weaver scopes also work on centerfire rifles? Are they stout enough?
I wonder how one would look on a Big Boy...

Do you have an advantage with a large loop lever on a rimfire or is it the looks you like?
I have thought about a larger loop on a hunting rifle in winter when our temps. get into the 0s & below & we wear gloves.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Some rimfire scopes are stout enough and some aren't. Usually its the smaller 3/4" tubes that aren't. The 7/8" tubes usually are and all the 1" tubes are. But the parallax is set for 60 yards on most rimfire Weavers. I prefer the straight tube Weavers although some of mine have a rear and/or front bell.

I like the looks of them better but like you say in the winter the big loop is more practical. The larger loops makes for a longer stroke unless you learn a simple little trick. I don't swing cock them so that isn't important to me. My custom Rio Bravo and Rifleman levers were built in the same profile as what Chuck Connors used in The Rifleman and what John Wayne used in many of his movies.

I have found that I really like the Henry large loop levers much better than the stock levers. Fit my big paws better.

I have small hands and the small lever is about perfect for them. I could see where larger hands would like the big lever better.

So where can I get the Rio Bravo and Riflleman levers? I think Henry offered the Rifleman for a short time. Otherwise are they custom made?

Both are custom made. I found mine on ebay and have bought from three different makers. The first two were good but nothing special. Then the last guy I bought from was miles ahead of the others. I ended up buy four from him. I'll try to find his info if you are interested. You have to send your current lever in and he charges $180. They aren't cheap.

I'll try to get in contact with the last guy I bought from and will let him know. He joined the other forum but didn't post much.

understandable if his reason for joining was to sell levers .... no doubt about them being worth the price because they are literally hand made but $180 is kind of steep for many of us

I have eight. Do the math. But some were bought a few years ago starting at $60. But the price just kept going up and up. I think its kind of labor intensive.

it would have to be .... do they take OEM levers and modify them .... if so, that starts the process at about $50 on the expense side
