I belong to the slap some stain on it and shoot club.

Glad to hear it, there for a minute I was wondering.
I know you've been around firearms a long as I and we know how things happen.
Heck, most of the people on this forum would have most likely not bought my 44 BBB like it was/is when I purchased it.
Brass was/is dulled and the stocks have a couple dings, hunting rifle most likely...CoooL
Any way sorry bout the scratches brother, didn't mean to pick at cha bad.

That one up by the comb would be an easy sand and stain job. The lower one is going to take some work. Pretty deep. Your call, of course. Best of luck. We've all been there.

Old English brand scratch cover for dark woods works wonders. It's great because it doesn't penetrate anything but the scratches.

Sorry to see that damage, we all fumble from time to time. For me I would just sand those out and refinish both stocks so they would match. I really like a lighter finished wood anyway.

Yikes.. I am always afraid of that. That’s why mine go from the vault, straight into a hard case, removed from the case at the range table, where it’s grass. They never go anywhere else.

Character marks, slap a little stain on them and carry on.
Happens all the time with hunting rifles, something to remember.
Y'all think it's the end of the world to get a little scratch here and there.
Just like a new car, if ya take it out of the driveway stuffs gonna happen.
It still shoots for Christ sakes.

Hee hee, Very Much agree. Nice to have a nice lookin' gun, but it is after all a tool, not a shrine.

That said, for the electric guitar bodies I've made with a natural finish, I've had some luck mixing fine sawdust (preferably from the very same chunk 'o' lumber the guitar body came from) with a tiny bit of Titebond III glue. Mash it into the void, then sprinkle some more sawdust on it, press a bit on that, and let it dry for half a day or more. It takes stain "sorta okay-ish", but I usually try to do some grain matching with one of those stain pencils before (and sometimes after) staining. You might be able to try something like this if it really bugs ya cosmetically.

Really help if you knew what sorta wood it is to get some sawdust sandings. It is odd how light colored that wood is; I thought all Henry's used American walnut, which is normally a tad darker......

Regardless of what you do, ya might dab a little Tru-Oil in the void just to seal it after stain. I think that's how I'd try to "fix" it, if it were it me. Character marks, and all like that, ya know......

Thank you for your comment. Yes I built them both. I use the kayak more than the canoe but both get used. Considering laminating a couple paddles this winter. The canoe deserves better paddles than I own and it would be an interesting project.
