Problem with new rifle

Post by Ernie » Sun Sep 19, 2021 3:41 pm

Did not pay close enough attention to the new rifle when I opened it up. Took couple pics Friday and yesterday busy all day and did not pick it up. Today got my chores done then ran a quick couple of patches through it and headed for the range. As soon as I aimed it at the target I saw the front sight was cocked. You can see in the pictures that it got a hard hit from something that put a dent in the sight. Wondering if someone at Henry gave it a whack to try and straighten it up. That would be the side to hit to try.

Not sure if I want to knock it out to check the groove for square but guess I will have to.
Very disappointing.

I don't see how that could happen with such a tight dovetail. I'd be tempted to send it back.

Unless the front sight is aluminum that took a heavy it to twist it like that. Surprised nobody caught it before shipping it out.
I would call Henry and ship it back!

Sent an email with pics to Daniel Clayton-Luce. He was the man that arranged for the gun to be shipped to me. Can't believe I didn't see that sooner.

Those sights are really tough. I took a lot to twist it.

Holy cow how is that even possible? I just switched out my front sight on my octagon .357 and no way it can do that. Is the dovetail groove messed up?

Tapped out the sight as asked by Henry and seems it was not centered on the dovetail and forced in. Sending rifle in, will probably need new barrel.
