Henry Frontier with polished receiver.
Henry Frontier with polished receiver.
I have had my Frontier in .22 for quite a while now. Great rifle , very accurate and reliable. I have seen on various parts of the net that folks have stripped the receiver on their Henrys to give it a new look. I liked the look of them stripped and decided to do the same thing.
So I removed the barrel band and receiver cover and, with bated breath, dropped them in a plastic container filled with paint stripper. Let it soak for a few minutes then went to work with some 0000 steel wool and a bit of elbow grease.
With a bit of massaging from the steel wool the paint comes off fairly easily. Once cleaned and dried I got my dremel with some polishing compound and a small Buffon wheel and brought up a bit of a shine. I then wen to work with some Autosol and a cloth, followed by some purple polish. I'm quite pleased with the result and I am looking to get some engraving done on it in the future. Hmm, the photos are a bit distorted, they look right when you click on them though.

Very nice work! Sir Henry (co-owner of the forum) is known for his modifications to the Henry covers, too. I admire folks that have the courage to do what you do! Thanks for the pics and the story.

Re: Henry Frontier with polished receiver.
That looks great. Any concern with leaving the metal bare? I'm assuming the original finish was protecting the receiver?

Load on Sunday and Shoot all Week.......okay it's a Mare's Leg I will reload on Wednesday.
Re: Henry Frontier with polished receiver.
The polish I have used has a protective property, remains to be seen how well it works, also has a light wipe with G96. Time will tell.

They came out really nice!
Wish I had a spare cover to try that and be able to swap out when I wanted to!
