new henry H001trp question

Post by larry7293 » Thu Jul 14, 2016 8:07 pm

Picked up my new Henry H001TRP this evening. Really like the skinner peep and the large loop lever. I am wondering why the model number on the rifle says H001TLP. The serial number on the gun matches the serial number on the henry box. The model number on the henry box says H001TRP.
Any input would be much appreciated. The difference in the two models is the length of the barrel. Very confusing.

thanks

I'm going to guess that the wrong box was selected when the rifle was packaged. Nonetheless, if you thought you were buying the 38.5" TRP and you actually have a 33.75" TLP, you should call Henry CS to clarify it. Let us know how you make out.

Congratulations on your new rifle.

I have a Henry Small Game Carbine, model # H001TLP.

On my rifle, the serial number also reflects part of the model number, e.g. my serial number is, as in this example, TLP12345.
Both my model number and serial number are rolled on the stock-end of the receiver. I have to open my lever to read this numbers.

What is showing on your rifle receiver for both numbers?

If Henry uses the same configuration, you should then have TRP within your serial number, too.

My serial number on the rifle starts with TLP and also the model number on the rifle is H001TLP.

OK. So you "picked up my new Henry H001TRP this evening."

"The serial number on the gun matches the serial number on the henry box".

I think that CT_Shooter is correct. Somehow the TLP rifle was packed in a box with the TRP model number on it, and at the same time, the box was also marked with the TLP serial number that is on the rifle. Your FFL would have checked only the TLP serial number on the box and the rifle before he recorded the transfer of ownership to you....probably never even looked at the model number on the box.

CT_Shooter was also correct when he noted "if you thought you were buying the 38.5" TRP and you actually have a 33.75" TLP, you should call Henry CS to clarify it." CT's comment reflects the bottom line: What rifle model did you want or order from Henry?

As many rifles and models Henry makes, it must be a challenge to keep everything aligned perfectly. Their spreadsheet must be huge!!
Finally, I agree with CT. Call Henry, and let us know how this all shakes down. Have a good day!

I talked to Henry and they said all of their H001TRP rifles have the model number H001TLP on the receiver. I do not agree with putting a different model number on a rifle than what the gun is. The H001TRP tells me that the rifle is a 20 inch barrel. Likewise H001TLP would mean a 16 inch carbine barrel. Does anyone else have a H001TRP rifle with H001TLP stamped on the receiver? I would be curious to know.

thanks again.

So would I. Almost hard to believe that answer from Henry. :o It throws a detail person like myself for a wild loop.
Wonder why they do that? Must be trying to keep the spreadsheet size down.....

They put the serial number on the receiver before the barrel is installed. So its possible the error was made between the serial number stamping and barreling.

If they did put the serial number on the receiver before the barrel was installed, and it was an error{ contrary to what Henry told me which was that all their H001TPR rifles are stamped H001TLP} does this cause any confusion if I would ever decide to sell the gun or does it diminish the value of the gun in any way?
Henry said they were going to look up the serial number of my gun and get back to me, but I have not heard any more from them. What information about the gun can be found by looking up the serial number?

You've posed three interesting questions. Here are my answers (two cents worth only).

Q: "... does this cause any confusion if I would ever decide to sell the gun?"
A: If I were the buyer (and since I'm very detail-oriented), yes it would.

Q: "...does it diminish the value of the gun in any way?"
A: I don't know. The MSRP for these two models is identical.

Q: "What information about the gun can be found by looking up the serial number?"
A: I don't know whether more than "birth date" of the rifle and where produced.

Again I'd say that Henry CS is the best avenue to get these questions answered. BTW, check out the "Henry Guarantee" on the Henry web site: https://www.henryrifles.com/the-henry-guarantee/ The Henry president guarantees that you will be a "satisfied customer."

It will most interesting to hear what the final result on your issue will be from Henry.

I recently purchased a small game rifle and noticed the same thing. The model number on the rifle says H001TLP, but it's clearly a H001TRP. We used a tape measure in the store to make sure it wasn't the carbine. No big deal, just caused some confusion initially.

Rifle is amazing, what a shooter.

Welcome from the Show-Me-State, and greetings from another SGC owner.

Would look forward to pictures and range reports as you are using your new rifle.
You're spot on -- it is a great rifle! :)
