Agree with Evan on this - I'd give the gun a good cleaning before taking it to the range the first time. It always surprises me how dirty the barrels are on new Henrys out of the box. Cleaning the mag tube with a shotgun patch/oil/CLP is also a good idea - usually makes the loading tube slide a whole lot easier. I would also drift your front sight to center before going to the range. You can do this with a brass punch and small hammer or if you don't have a good punch, use a short piece of 1/2" oak round dowel, which can be bought at Lowes/Home Depot. Just use your eyeball looking at the end of the muzzle to get it centered. You can adjust for windage with the rear peep at the range - don't forget to take the allen wrenches for the rear peep....

I think half the fun with these Henrys is tinkering around with them - i.e. sights, levers, lever-wraps, etc. They aren't that expensive a gun and they are kind of easy to customize a little to each individual taste...

When I got my Henry I just went for it. When I did clean, it was pretty dirty for me having fired only 20 rounds. I also found a lot of machinist grit in the mag tube. Doing it over, I'd clean first. Besides, didn't you say it was a rainy day?

Yes Mags, seems to rain here all the time anymore. had planned to clean and adjust sights today, however, the wife roped me in to going grocery shopping with her...you know..her priorities won out. She does the cooking and does very well. I guess eating or playing with the Henry might be a toss up...

I just got the 22 lr pump 2 weeks ago and I am waiting for the weather to clear up so I can try it out. I too ordered the small game carbine in 22 lr and I hope there are no problems. I would have thought the front sight on your gun would have been adjusted closer at the factory. It wouldn't take much to set up a check system to make sure the front sight was in some sort to tolerance. Any way congratulations on your new Henry and I hope it meets and exceeds all your expectations.

Thank you Earnie for the good wishes. Unfortunately, yes, I agree, the front sight is visibly off and really should not be. At least it should be an easy fix though. Gotta be ready for spring shooting.
