1st Range Trip W/ H001

I resolved my rifle scope mounting problem with a set of Warne rings I bought at the Sportsman's Warehouse store in Columbia, SC. They are medium height rings and the scope objective clears the rear sight but not by much. Henry sent me a shipping label to return the Talley rings which are incorrectly listed a medium height rings on the Henry Outfitters website. I called Talley and was advised Talley makes no medium height rings in that line, only low height rings.

Anyway, I mounted the Nikon scope yesterday and spent some time at the range earlier today. I got it on paper at 25 yards, more or less, and moved the target frame to the 50 meter line. Of the ten different boxes of .22 WMR ammo I shot, the outstanding round was Hornady 30 gr. V-Max, one ragged hole in spite of my poor marksmanship abilities. I settled on Federal Small Game 50 gr. JHP ammo because it is somewhat economical and although not as good as the Hornady V-Max accuracy wise, it is certainly within minute of armadillo or coyote. After I decided what ammo to stay with, I got a zero at 50 meters. I say 50 meters because it is either 50 yards or 50 meters, depends on which club member you speak to.

In any event, I found the trigger to be acceptable but not nearly as nice as the trigger on my Savage Model 93 with the accu-trigger. Also, it seemed the group sizes improved as the morning progressed. By 12:30 or so, it got hot and humid enough that I packed it in.

I have a couple of questions.

1.) Will the trigger pull improve as time passes? I probably shot about 100 rounds or so today but I think I may have noticed a slight, although very slight, improvement as the morning progressed but that may be my mind wanting to see improvement rather than actual trigger improvement.

2.) Have other forum members noticed accuracy improvement as more rounds go downrange?

All in all, I was pleased with today's range trip. Wish I was a better shot.

Keep practicing, you will get there. Glad you like the rifle.

My understanding is a warm and fouled rifle bore is going to be more accurate than a cold clean bore. Also, after a few shots, it's likely your mental state gets tuned and settled into what your doing and accuracy improves as you shoot more.

As for the trigger, the trigger pull poundage isn't likely to change much. It can get smoother though as the trigger parts wear in.

I do like the rifle. In my opinion, it is illustrative of Henry producing a quality firearm at a competitive price.
