Sorry, somehow I missed this detail in your first post, danall. I could not agree with you more. Both stocks look beautiful, but the walnut/stain/Tru-Oil combo really does Zing! Thanks for sharing those pics!

I agree 100% on the factory finish on the Henry rimfires. My SGC had zero character to the wood, as the urethane is tinted so dark, it almost looks like plastic. I used paint stripper and a LOT of effort to remove the urethane. My finish (seen below with my .357 before it got modded) was 4 coats of linseed oil sanded in. I stripped the paint off the receiver cover and barrel band too.
