Heck Yeah

Got my new Henry Survival Rifle today. Really excited about it. True Timber Kanati Camo version. Just unpacked it, won’t be able to shoot for a few days. I’ll let you know.

Well, shot last night. Did ok. Suffered the well documented ammo issues. CCI mini mags and generic Remington. Both had jams loading into chamber. Will be trying better quality rounds to look for reliable performance. I understand the need for the higher velocity rounds.

I want one but because of all the feeding problems haven’t pulled the buying trigger.

Any AR7 users here have a favorite brand of ammo. Looking for that elusive reliable round. Thanks

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I have shot my AR-7 aprox 600/800 rounds now. The only problem I have ever had with mine was a cci Velocitor round that the rim exploded on. My go to ammo is Remington gold 1400 round bulk. Have also shot Aguila and cci mini mags. Last week my son & grandson went to the range with me. Grandson shoots it more than I do. He loves it. Thinks it's really cool that he has to put it together before he can use it. I've had more feeding issues with my 001 lever than my AR-7.

My U.S. Survival Rifle runs best on CCI Mini Mags. After that anything copper plated rated at around 1250 fps. I have a lot of issues with lead round nose and Remington Yellowjackets with the truncated cone were a problem. I did get better accuracy with CCI Standard Velocity but also had more stoppages so CCI Mini Mags are my preferred ammo. No real difference between the 36gr CPHP and the 40gr CPRN.

I also found the rifles run better initially when well oiled. The inside of the receiver has a rough finish and both rifle I have uneven wear marks in the finish on the bolt. I am assuming this is from the uneven surface in the receiver. I would open the bolt and drop a few drops of oil in, close the bolt and drop a few more in the ejection port and then cycle the bolt a few times before hitting the range. Doesn’t require it now and don’t recall how many rounds I had through it before I stopped using the oil.

Several thousand rounds through it now and still running strong.

I'm glad you recieved the rifle, congratulations again.
I have an older AR-7 and it has eaten everything I've fed it reliably.
I hope you get the ammo sorted out soon.
