AR-7 Rifles - Request Information on all types.

Post by armycat » Wed May 19, 2021 10:24 pm

I am a fan of the AR-7 rifle which was originally produced by Armalite and then by several other companies. The current version is manufactured by Henry Repeating Arms. I have read hundreds of posts on dozens of online forums seeking information on reliability, durability and differences between the different versions. I have found a lot of conflicting information so I am trying to compile information on specific features on AR-7s manufactured by different companies. I hope this thread does not turn into a debate on the quality or reliabilty of the design or specific firearms. I would like owners of AR-7 rifles to post specific information about their rifles.

Information I am hoping for:
1) Manufacturer and location
2) Model number or name
3) Serial number (feel free to use XXX for the last few digits)
4) Barrel material, all steel, aluminum with steel liner, plastic with steel liner, etc
5) Is the hollow area in the stock filled with foam, colour of stock and colour of storage area
6) Front sight - metal or plastic and colour
7) Number of magazines that can be stored when stowed including magazine in the receiver
8) Does the receiver have a 3/8" dovetail or weaver style rail.
9) Any unique features or details you would like to add

I have two AR-7s, so I'll start.
1) Henry Repeating Arms, Bayonne New Jersey
2) H002B U.S. Survival Rifle
3) US1331XXX
4) ABS Plastic with steel liner
5) No foam, stock is black, storage area is orange
6) Plastic, orange
7) 3 including one in the receiver
8) Yes 3/8" dovetail

1) Charter Arms, Stratford Connecticut
2) AR-7 Explorer
3) A174XXX
4) Aluminum with steel liner
5) Yes filled with foam, stock and storage area is black
6) Metal, silver (although I believe the previous owner sanded the black finish off of it)
7) 1 total, cannot store a magazine in the receiver
8) No

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to answer these questions.
