Good looking rifle!
Makes me think about looking for a Winchester High Wall.

Yes it does seem to be a very classed up High Wall! A Sunday Tea rifle?

Hopefully, it will become available in other cartridges. An 1885 action is strong enough to handle just about any modern cartridge.
(As far as the ad copy about the west becoming "civilized" by the 1890s, that's a bit of an exaggeration.)

I think the 303 British caliber is fitting. For a century that was the main caliber in Africa.

In 1899 my grandfather was a deputy sheriff riding a "circuit" around Rapid City, SD. On a horse that he had to buy. He later retired as a city cop in Sioux Falls. He had a lot of stories. Some may even been true.

Don't know anything about .303 British, what compares in other calibers?

The 303 British was the standard British military cartridge for many, many years, through both World Wars. It's similar to the 300 Savage. Neither one is as powerful as the 30-06, but both are good big game cartridges for anything on this continent short of the big bears.

It was bullet design (boat tail) that made the .303 the better rifle at mid-ranges (300-600m).
Initially at least.
