The 303 British was the standard British military cartridge for many, many years, through both World Wars. It's similar to the 300 Savage. Neither one is as powerful as the 30-06, but both are good big game cartridges for anything on this continent short of the big bears.

It was bullet design (boat tail) that made the .303 the better rifle at mid-ranges (300-600m).
