Picked up a couple 50rnd boxes of Fiocchi 124grn jhp this morning. Getting ridiculous, 52cents/rnd, and this stuff is on the cheap shelf. What are y'all paying locally? On-line and reloading doesn't count for this question. :)

Gene, I don't shoot it much so I rarely even look at the stuff, but
next time I'm at Academy I'll look.
I was in there last week and did see a 200 Rd box of Win 230gr 45 acp for $85, and one of those followed me home.

Now that's something that hadn't even occurred to me, although I know that a few States have that.

Yeah, Washington State is trying to do the same. Locally our Bi Mart had CCI Blazer Brass on sale for $11.99 per box or .24 per round.

ETA, didn’t notice you mentioned JHP, the Blazer price is fmj.

Without being specific, I think we all know what's behind these 'excise' taxes. ;)

As for this state....
You can buy ammunition out of state, but to bring it into California, you first have to ship it to a licensed California ammunition vendor so they can perform a background check and hand your ammo back to you. The law does not limit the fee the vendor can charge for this service.
