Ammo Availability

Post by HenryFan » Sat Dec 02, 2023 2:45 pm

Yesterday, when I was completing the forms necessary for the transfer of my newest Henry single shot rifle, the FFL holder and I were chatting and he commented that ammo seems to be getting more difficult to find and also, that it is getting much more expensive. He continued that wars in eastern Europe and the middle east were at least partly to blame.

I guess he deals with it more often than I but I don't think I have seen shortages. High prices to some degree but ammo still seems available.

Am I missing something? Have other forum members experienced shortages? If something is coming that I am unaware of, I might need to buy a round or two.

Selection of well known calibers is better now than it was over the summer in our area, but the prices have been way high. Tempts me to get back into reloading, but then you still have to deal with availability and price issues.

Still having trouble with 410's at local stores.

In my area 410's are the new 22's.

But now there are 22's plentiful, lol.

Here it is like Swiss cheese. Lots and lots of cheese on shelves. Shelves are full, but there are holes in what is available. For example 30-30, 45 colt, 410 and others, none. Also lots of powder and primers on the shelf, but for example no H1000 or large rifle primers.

I'm till seeing 30-30 on the shelf, even though we are smack in the middle of our deer season.
The 45 colt has never been a large shelf space occupier around here.
The 410 has been absent for over a year or so now. Has Always been more expensive than 20 0r 12 ga,
but usually available in smaller quantities. Now none.

Well if you see primers for sale buy them now whether you need them or not. That limited availability for Alliant powders is concerning and that will lead to dealers marking it up higher. I'm okay on powders much more than I have primers so will be adding those I see.

The local Academy has had spp for quite a while now with a limit of per day, $7.99 per hundred.
They are the ones I used the least, but every time I do stop in I get my limit anyway.
I'm back up over 4k of those at the moment.

Small Pistol primers selling for same here locally. I am loading 45 ACP using small primer brass since only other thing I use SP for is 357 or 38 special.
That will save the LP for the Colt 45 and 44 loads.
