Just got some ammo in for BB .357 Carbine!

Post by Retlawman » Fri May 20, 2022 3:48 pm

Hey all,

OK, so I'm excited to get some .38 special and .357 mag for my new BB side gate carbine. I'm in NY, so this isn't easy. I've used Oudoors Unlimited before and they are fast and priced OK, not great. Sometimes they offer free shipping over$250. This time it was $10 off. I'll take it. They threw in a free folding knife. Its actually not terrible.

Well here's a pic of what I got. The Double Tap is some nasty stuff at 158gr and 1570 ft/sec out of a 6"!! I can't wait to hit the range this coming week!

Over 1500 fps with a 158 grain in a 6 inch revolver. I would like to see the chrono. read out on that. If true it will be like the first .357 loads when only an N frame S&W was chambered for it. Let us know the results when you shoot them.

As an aside to the "hot" .357 ammo, how many know that the first .357 ammo used large primers? Also I believe that the early velocity specs. were based on the S&W N frame " Registered Magnum" with the 8 3/8" barrel.

Hey Lawman. You've gotta try reloading! I just finished a batch of 100. 125 grain fmj. I bought about 1000 rounds early on. Now, I just make em up as I go. Lots of variety and loaded as I see fit.
I shoot my Henry, and a Ruger SP101 4" It's good to have the matching calibers.

Funny thing, OUTDOOR LIMITED showroom isn't more than 5 miles from my house. Many, many LGSs get their ammo from them. When I found out about them more than a few years ago, I started buying out of the showroom, and during the flu foolishness, when they closed the showroom, locals (or anyone that wanted to drive) could order online and schedule pickup.

Now I buy at the LGS just help support them, no longer need to "stock up" on anything.

Good deal there! I haven't seen .38 Special at the LGS in a long time.
