Recommended loads for .357 Big Boy X

Post by Darryl Moore » Sun Nov 14, 2021 10:23 pm

I'm new to Henry's Big Boy X in .357 mag so I'd welcome recommendations on ammo. My call to the Henry comp. yielded little, but I was told to "only use 158 grains" when shooting .38 sp. For .357 I was told that about any grain would be fine. I have kept .357 to 158 grains as well. Both calibers in 158 grains have shot great. What do you folks recommend as working well for your .357 Henry Big Boy X ???

I'm reloading .38 and .357 with Hornady XTP 158 and 125 grains. Federal HP factory loads did well. Magtech, not so much.
Love the accuracy of the Hornady hollow points. Went through a bunch of cheap Winchester lead .38 factory rounds and they were ok but not close to the FMJs

I have the same rifle as KMB and handload 158's and 180's using Missouri or T & B coated bullets. .357. Very few .38spl, but, those were/are 158's.
No issues.

Are you reloading or buying over the counter. Its hard to beat 2400 and a 158 grain bullet in 357

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

we have tried cast bullets but long ago decided we only want to fire jacketed bullets .... since the mid '60's we have used 14.8 gr of W296, or 15.9 gr of H110 pushing Nosler 158 GR Nosler JHP bullets in multiple 357 rifles and revolvers .... they have delivered excellent accuracy and penetration while taking deer, black bear, and boar .... we monitor Rose Distribution ===> http://www.rozedist.com/mm5/merchant.mv ... de=ZBJ-38S to buy our practice 158's in bulk .... for hunting we monitor Shooter's Pro Shop ===> https://www.shootersproshop.com/38-cali ... 250ct.html and stock up when they have them in stock

It's good to know that Henry recommends 158 grain .38 and any for .357.
