Palmetto arms are working on making steel cased American made ammo.

7.62x39 first, then 5.45x39.

A guy behind the counter at one of my LGS's was telling me that steel cased ammo was hard on semi-autos. True or not? They had some aluminum cased 9mm for a decent price, around $22 for 50.

There is nothing new under the sun. During WW2 the U.S. made 45 A.C.P. ammo with steel cases. When I had my 1917 Colt someone gave me an ammo box full of empty steel 45 cases. Since it was used in a revolver and I had a carbide sizer die, I reloaded them once and then disposed of the empties. I have a few of the factory loaded rounds stuck to my magnetic tool rack in my reloading room.

The SKS and AK were designed for Russian steel case. The Russian 7.62X39 isn't .308 it's actually .311 so your Ruger mini 30 might not like it
