Underwood .41mag discontinued

Post by GunnyGene » Fri Jun 20, 2025 3:28 pm

Just found out that Underwood has dumped all but one load of .41 ammo. They are still making 210grn xtp, but the others are gone. I think they might stop production on that also once they sell what's on hand. I have plenty of 210xtp, and Hornady 190grn ftx and won't be needing any more since I stopped killing Bambi a few years ago. Buffalobore still has a good selection of .41mag, but very expensive, almost $3/rnd.

I became a .41 Magnum fan during the "Dirty Harry" madness when you couldn't find a Model 29 anywhere. I still have that Model 57 along with a 657 and Ruger Bisley. It always seemed to me that the .41 was noticably more pleasant to shoot while being close to equal in horsepower to the .44. I hate to see it withering on the vine.

The Rodney Dangerfield of caliber’s. Rodney withered away to. Ive owned several 57 and 657’s but the lone handgun that remains is a 4 5/8 barrel Blackhawk and my Henry lever in 41.

Haha, Rodney Dangerfield, good one.
A 41 fan here, it was the caliber that finally pushed me into reloading.
I have a Henry and 6.5" BH
Cor bon still offers a 180gr load.

Here, other brands. Mostly 210 and 230gr. Some 180 and 190. Least expensive in the latter is Hornady FTX @ $1.75per/rnd. Least expensive overall is HSM Cowboy 210gr SWC @ $1.10 ea.

Exactly the same for me. In the early 80’s Washington made handgun hunting for deer, bear and elk legal. I wanted to give it a try and needed a bigger handgun. I was working for a firearms wholesaler and we were a distributor for S&W. All the M/29’s were allocated to our customers with a long waiting list so I wasn’’t allowed to buy one. So like 5shot I bought a M/57 instead. Funny, we could hardly give a 41 mag away, everybody had to have that “make my day” special. That was the beginning of my fondness for odd calibers like the 41. Have had a 57, a 657, a Marlin 41 1894 and now a Henry BBS 41.

As Vaquero said, 41 sure makes you a hand loader.
