Gunpowder shortage taking shape

Post by GunnyGene » Tue Oct 22, 2024 9:45 am

Article this morning. Several reasons for this given, but from a consumer point of view it will also result in factory ammo shortages and higher prices. This is getting to be a regular occurrence. Consider yourselves warned.

Read the whole thing.

The way I see it is its already here. Unique Blue Dot Green Dot 2400 Red Dot and Im sure there is some I havent mention are all gone off the shelves. If you find any the price is so high I wouldnt buy it. I have a stash of a couple of those but Ive been trying to make other powders do. Ive had some luck with HS-6 which still seems to be available.

Not that I don't believe the article, but not seeing a shortage here except for .410. Plenty of common calibers on the shelves, similar with shelves being stocked with powder, bullets and primers. Also, factory ammo prices on common calibers have been falling and the shortage of Large Rifle Primers seems to have gone away. Good time to buy if a shortage is coming. Oregon members, be thinking about your next firearm purchase very soon.

This one will probably be much like previous ones, which means that shortages and corresponding prices are not evenly spread around the country, unless it's truly a nationwide shortage that depletes all the distributors and retailers in every State. And even then it would be more severe and arrive at different times in some parts of the country than in others. Kind of like the flu spreads. :)

I'm not seeing any shortage locally, but did stop by my LGS this morning and picked up a few boxes of .22wmr which I'd been meaning to do for a couple weeks. About 34cents/rnd.

I have plenty of Unique...Red Dot...2400...Power Pistol and BE-86 which I use to supplement Unique loads. Have some other powders also and glad I would pick up some when I saw it at my LGS over the years.
