New shed coming next week

Post by Hatchdog » Fri Jun 18, 2021 9:05 am

The parcel next to us has sold and the new owners have started construction. To date they have had build a first class beautiful shop and after waiting for nearly a year excavation for their house starts tomorrow.

We have lots of trees between our places but their shop is located in the only open space between out places. So we decided to plant some trees to maintain our line of sight privacy but due to growth rate we decided this would take too long. So we decided to place a shed in this spot to have some instant gratification. Due to the high demand of everything in this crazy world now the shed company was four months behind to build a shed to order. They do have many lot models available and we found one that fit our needs other than the color. So we bought this shed and even buying a lot model delivery is four weeks out.

Well finally the delivery date is upon us. Yesterday the site prep guy showed up and put the gravel pad in place. I had already leveled the site somewhat and by using a transit the prep guy made the site perfectly level. The shed is 20 ft long and due to the length it’s best to have 100% support for the runners. A smaller shed would be fine to place on blocks. The shed itself will be delivered and set on next Tuesday. We’ll have to repaint it to match and I’ll paint the floor with some marine paint as I will be parking my snowplow in there bring in lots of water.

Here’s some pics of the pad and the shed that is still at the lot. I’ll post another when it is in place and repainted. In the second picture note the trees to the left, they are a Cedar Hybrid that grow fast and are drought resistant. Also you can see the neighbors shop. I don’t have water available in this location so I had to run a long hose back there to give them a drink.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

That’s a thought, maybe I should insulate it and put a propane heater in it. Then when Mrs. Hatch is getting grumpy she will be warm at least.

The shed was delivered yesterday and we definitely are going to have to paint it. The color has way too much pink/red in it. We knew we would have to paint the trim as it’s way to light. Man, paint must be doing the inflation think that lumber is. Bought four gallons of paint, a few roller covers and other misc. items and the total was $267. Bought choked!

Here it is set in place waiting for paint. These pics are from my patio and between the trees I planted and now the shed we have regained our line of sight privacy with the new neighbors.

After working just in the mornings due to heat I finally got the shed finished today. The original body color was too dark and pinkish and the trim color was too light. Man, some people just can’t be pleased….. :lol… So my wife and I painted it using the same colors we used on another shed that’s out of sight in these pictures. That shed houses my tractor and other equipment and this new shed will house a quad, tow behind mower and my side by side and whatever else I can fit in there. My side by side is also my snow plow and in the winter it will bring lots of snow (water) in so I painted the floor with two coats of bathroom enamel. I also hit the ramp with a coat of Thompson’s Water Seal even tho it’s marine plywood. I’ll let everything dry for a day or two and start to fill it up. My wife wants to do some artsy stuff on the side facing the house so that’s still pending. No power in the shed so she is ordering a solar powered exterior light that will be mounted next to the man door. I’d like to green up the grasses back there but I’m already watering too much for a 7 GPM well. We’ll see on that.

Looks Good. Good idea to paint the floor. We used one of the wooden buildings as a boathouse for years for the kayaks and kayak trailer. Painted the floor first thing, kayaks are always wet. Lol. Never had a problem. The picture below was taken right after we first painted the floor and installed the roll up door to accommodate the rack and roll trailer.

The kayaks changed over the years, but we still have the trailer here in Oklahoma. :)
