Whirlpool washer fixed!
My 15 year old Whirlpool top loader washing machine won't spin with a load in it unless you rotate it by hand first or take out 1/2 the load. I do this with the machine off of course. My thinking is that the clutch assembly has a lot of wear after looking at the trouble shooting guide.
New clutch is about 49.00 and isn't to difficult to replace.
Other than that the machine works fine and cheaper than around 900 bucks for a new similar unit. Might give it a shot to fix it.

Well hope the fix works! If you have to get a new one look at a Speed Queen. They make most of the commercial washers in laundramats and are made in USA. Their moter/,trans warranties are double most of the others.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Well there is a nice video put out by Whirlpool that goes thru it step by step so I will be making a few trips to the computer and back.
However I saw no mention of having to use the most important tool....the 4 lb. ball peen hammer which I have. It has calibrations on the handle for swing pressures!

Parts ordered and replacing the clutch and motor to trans coupler which is a common failure part after years of use. 70 bucks worth of parts so will see how the repair goes.

Re: A fun washer repair job coming up.... Job done!
Well took the washer apart and it went smoothly. Go the new clutch assembly laid out and you had 2 springs to pick from. A Tim the Toolman moment...of course I used the super duty spring! Hardest part of putting it back together should have been the easiest part...sliding the motor/gearbox unit back in. The three mounting ears on washer frame had sprung a bit taking a good effort and cuss fest to line them up but it finally went in.
Put a big load of clothes in and watched it go thru the cycles. No leaks and ran great. Goes into hyper spin mode now with no problem and you have to peel the clothes off side of wash tub from the G forces!!
