I am considering changing the lever on my BBS to a large lever. To those of you that have done this, have you had to add shims? Thank you in advance for your advice.

I went the other way and didn't add any shims. It's a bit sloppy like my other Henrys and I might just add shims to all three of them.

I've put large loops on all three of our Henry rifles .... no shims have been needed

Im another one put a large loop on the 41 and never used any shims it works fine

I've done two, one BBS & one BBB, can't tell any difference between them and the original's.
I like the larger loops.

I installed the large loop on my Henry 44 mag. I added the shims and like that better. Without the shims, it was pretty sloppy. I was a steel fabrication fitter for 18 years, sloppy, not good.

Same here. Put one on my BBS 357. no shims or issues.

Mine is fine while up and locked. Smooth action..... But when the lever is forward loose, it is a little wiggly on the lateral. Doesn't bother me as much. Maybe it will I've time.

I'll wait to see what you decide and others have to say before I consider adding shims.

You'll probably waste more money on bullets that don't shoot then what you will lose on shims you might not like. They don't cost that much to try. I have them on my Marlins and my Henry. Like I said, I don't like slop.

I got mine at Ranger Point. I ordered shims for my Marlins when I ordered their big loop levers for my 1894 and 1895 so I ordered a set for my Henry as well. To bad they don't have the big loop lever for the Henry because I like the ones I bought for the Marlins a bit better then Henrys.

info appreciated .... a fellow never knows when he may need a shim ...

The large loop for the 45/70 are finally in stock. Got one on order. Now the wait begins LOL

You will like it. I got one for my 44 mag. Henry and it will allow me to wear a decent pair of gloves when the hunting day turns bitter cold. I also ordered the shims for mine and it really took the play out nicely. I will admit though that with shaky hands, the shims are a bit of a pain to line up when assembling after cleaning but worth it.

Just now checked, they're out of stock. Left an email to notify ( if I decide I need them ).

Just got an email from Henry, my large loop lever is on the way. USPS. likely be sometime next week. We all know how speedy the USPS is.

I received shims from Ranger Point and I got an email from Henry on Wednesday saying they shipped the large loop lever.

While we're on the subject of levers & shims. Why would Henry make a lever, or gun, that needed shims? I know there's a reason for everything, but makes no sense to me.

The Henry will work just fine without the shims for the lever. Shims are sold just to take up the slop in the lever. Some don't mind the slop but some do.
I also bought shims for my 1894 and 1895 but after receiving them along with the levers , I found that there wasn't as much slop in the Marlin's levers so now I don't even have them in the Marlins.
With these lever guns, make sure you check all the screws after a shooting session as they work loose.
