Henry heavy barrel 30-30. ???

Post by Hatchdog » Wed Aug 12, 2020 5:54 pm

So I was just in my LGS checking inventory for a Henry steel 30-30. Being as the store has their long guns in standing racks out on the floor and since they mix all brands and calibers of levers together, when looking for a particular caliber I just look at the bore diameter. In doing this I found this rifle. It is a Used Henry H009 but look at the outside barrel diameter. That’s a Marlin 336 30-30 next to it for comparison. After taking this pic I found a new H009 and the barrel diameter is about the same as the Marlin.

Note in the next pic with the Henry turned sideways. This rifle has no checkering and the barrel band is different from the new rifle. The S/N on the oddball started with TT, then a zero and then four digits if memory serves me correctly. It was noticeably heavier than the new Henry.

I’m pretty new owning Henry’s and I don’t have a clue what this rifle is. Do any of you Henry old timers know what this rifle is?

I've never seen a barrel band on a BBS like that. Would this be a "prototype" or possibly a limited run ?

I did a little looking at the Henry online catalog and it appears that the gold octagonal rifles have a barrel band similar to the rifle I saw yesterday. I did find this Henry that while is a brass model it does have a round barrel and again the same barrel band. When I get the chance I will return to the shop and get the S/N and send it to Henry and ask about the history of this rifle. Unfortunately (or fortunately I guess :D ) I’m pretty busy prepping for a week at the lake and might not have time to do this prior to this weekends departure.

Many of us are prepping for the end of all things as we know it.... But, I like your idea of 'prepping' a whole lot better. Have fun at the lake!!!
