I agree with leaving the brass smear. I have the CCH in 44 mag and at first, I thought, I should clean the brass smear, but leaving it gives it the look of a veteran! The loading gate is not CCH. It's black steel. It will accumulate a brass appearing smear from ammo being slide into the gate. It's a tough scrub with Hoppe's #9 to get it off. TetraGun works better. I no longer bother. I leave it, gives the rifle additional character.
