New X model

Post by Jerrysea » Tue May 12, 2020 1:14 pm

Picked up the Henry rifle today. The new x model with the side gate. 357 mag.
Not going to be able to shoot it for a while. I have been having some severe dental problems on the right side of my mouth. Next dental appointment in early June. Hopefully shortly after that.
Reading through the manual included. It does not state to use hollow points or soft point ammo. Just no reloads. Hand loads etc. Just use factory ammo.
The manual states to field strip the gun as stated in the manual. I don't see this in there.
This manual states it is for all x model series rifles and shotguns.
I looked at their website for video of taking care of guns. The x model is not on there.

Beside this I am very happy I was able to get this gun, there were none to be found when calling around. I contacted Henry and the FFl that I wanted to deal with was sent the gun. You may have seen my other post talking about this.
Hats off to Henry they did this while they are not really operating during this covid 19 mess.
The person at Henry who got this done for me is Dennette Siellrecht.

Jerry
On another note Henry will always tell you to fire factory ammo because of legality. Most all of us here shoot reloads. As far as tear down goes if you do a search on the sidegate models I think you will find some info that would help you. I have a sidegate model and the bolt comes out the same way it does on the BB models. I dont see any need to tear a new one down any farther that that. JMHO YMMV

 Having a new gun and not being able to shoot it would drive me insane. Not a long drive for me.

I have one on order, probably not have the paperwork and shipping sorted out for a few weeks. My local dealer says to expect it around mid July.
But congrats on yours, they seem to be a great rifle.

Nice looking rifle. This will be my next purchase once the virus pandemic calms down. I have a 9mm AR that I plan to sell to fund this purchase but between my not wanting to list my AR just yet and the lack of inventory of the Henry out there I plan to just wait a bit. Until then I will enjoy seeing and hearing about yours. :D

Stopped at LGS on just the right day. Right after I walked in, owner came from back with 357 X Model, which I told him to let me know if he ever got an X Model in. Just had to leave with it. My first shot with a 38 special and my Gemtech Multimount was so quiet, I wouldn’t have been sure if fired it it was for the ringing of the steel plate I shot at. Love the High Vis sights in this rifle, and will probably change out sights on my Big Boy All Weather 44 mag. May consider putting a Midwest Industries M Lock forearm on this in the future. I’ve already had him put me on “the list” if he gets one in 44 mag in. Unfortunately, it will probably be the end of the year before my Griffin Bushwacker gets out of jail, :-(

Out of the box sights were nearly dead on at 50 yards shooting some 158 gr HP 357 mag. POI elevation was on at 50 and about 1-1 1/2” right but had a almost 20 mph nearly crosswind. I’m calling it good for now. I think Henry needs to consider a little taller front sight on this rifle. My rear sight is all the way down and just touching the barrel so no adjustment but up for me. One other thing to watch for is to check the elevation adjustment screw of the rear sight. Mine was barrel screwed in and and daylight between bottom of screw and barrel.

Looks like your collection is growing. I hear that happens a lot with these rifles. Nice looking X and AW
