I will post a picture tonight but if one does a search online you might find a similar model. All you sidegate guys wanting sidegate lever guns in pistol calibers might be somewhat satisfied as all these new models have the sidegate receivers. All the popular calibers except of course the 41 will be available. 45 Colt 357 and 44 mag. There all black with Synthetic stocks and fiber optic sights. They have rails on the front for tactical gear. Round barrels. There is also a 45-70 and a 410 shotgun. Not my cup of tea but Im sure some people will love them.

So is Henry caving to "Tacticool" now?

Has Henry published an update? The web articles I could find are 18 months old. In those they said they were solicitating for customer interest. Couldn't find an update that would lead me to believe that they were going ahead to market them.

I have it in an email Mags with pictures. I will post pictures when I get home Im not able to do from my work computer. Its a dealer email thats official and the models are available now to order by the dealers. Its a pre shot show release.

I wonder if hanging rails and things on lever guns will draw the attention of the usual suspects - Brady, Moms, etc. ? Will they have a thing that goes up? So far Henry has avoided that kind of scrutiny, but they may be stepping into a pig sty with this. Hope they got the boots for it.

They sure like to tease beating around the bush with odd models of side loaders.

Not interested in the tactical guns.

This isnt a vey good picture but the pictures I have are imbedded in an email. When I try to get them out or post a link they direct you to a media package that is intended for dealers. Oh brother! Naw, no interest on my part. Hoping Henry doesn't go down this road too far.

Like I said not my cup of tea but to each there own. At least there might be a chance for more sidegate models in pistol calibers.

Now if I can get the precise location of that side gate port...well I do have a nice Bridgeport mill !

I'm guessing $850 out the door? I'd like to see / hold one in a .45-70 Govt. If they did the recoil system properly, I see potential.

These Xs aren't for me. Only thing I can say about this announcement is that it might suggest that 'regular' sidegate Henrys in pistol calibers aren't too far behind. Can't be too hard for Henry to replace the synthetic stocks with wood, right?

Think they'll have them at Shot on Tuesday? And what's with the "notch" on the bottom of the butt stock in the pic? Sling attach point?

One of these with 44special and a light on the bottom might make an excellent home defense "bump-in-the-night" gun....

I won't criticize Henry too much if they limit their 'X' models to just a couple and don't take it too seriously and go full blown stupid with it.

It's quite obvious interest in 'tactical' lever action rifles is minimal at best. IF it were better there would be more available other than that abortion from Mossberg - of which I still have only seen in pictures.

I could be wrong but I suspect Henry is looking to 'grab' a part of the market in places where 'assault' style rifles may become banned in the hopes the X models will fill the gap.

There is no doubt a part of the market see lever actions as an 'alternative' if (and thats a big IF) they were to lose their ability to own a MSR but it's still a small market as the bottom line is the MAJORITY of 'new' gun owners in the last 20 or so years were primarily interested in 'black' and 'plastic' and had little to no background in traditional style guns such as levers, bolts revolvers etc.

The majority of lever action aficionados want traditional models or originals of the classic names.

The bottom line is the gun market is in a state of 'flux' right now, is somewhat convoluted and difficult to predict.

One thing for certain is the 'traditional' marked is stable and possibly growing slightly. On other forums that allow gun ads I see used levers and revolvers getting a lot of responses and many mention how they are having a 'hard time finding a good used Winchester or Marlin' as the market is growing for them.

A good 'litmus test' is go hit a pawn shop or LGS and see how many used MSRs are on the racks as opposed to lever actions.

Another Mfg. of MSRs recently filed for bankruptcy (the Sharps Rifle Company - a Mfg. of MSRs - NOT falling block, SS rifles) due to 'years of declining revenue and growing debts' according to their reports. They are not the first and will most likely not be the last.

There's 3 or 4 shops I patronize in my local area. The biggest one (still small by big city standards) has a double sided 25' long floor rack as you walk in the door with nothing but used MSR's on it. That's 50' of rifles standing on their butts, and probably many more in the back room not on display.

Much farther back in a corner are new and used lever guns. Never more than 8 or 10 on that rack, and only 1 or 2 Henry's, usually a .22lr, and a .357 or .44, always new and they seem to sell relatively quickly. I've never seen a used Henry in the shop in 20 years. The other local shops are much the same, but with smaller inventories.

The biggest sellers around here are handguns and shotguns.
