New .357 Color Case Hardened Carbine

Post by MarkB » Thu Jan 16, 2020 7:41 pm

I picked up my new .357 color case hardened carbine today. It has a nice pattern on the receiver. I noticed one thing different. If you check the Henry website and look at the .357 Steel Big Boy Carbine and the .357 Color Case Hardened Carbine the specs say both hold 7 rounds but if you look at the photos of the rifles you will see that the mag tube of the .357 CCH Carbine is a little longer than the .357 Steel Carbine mag tube. I can load 8 rounds of .357 ammo in my CCH Carbine with the tip of the eighth round about 1/4" above the rear edge of the loading slot so there is plenty of room for the brass mag spring tube. I tried .38 Special and was able to load eight rounds. The ninth round made the ammo stack about 1/4" too long for the brass mag spring tube to lock.

I'll post some photos later when I get a chance.

I did add to the totals thread and now the total is 1112.

Here are some photos with a Skinner rear sight and dove tail filler that holds an extra aperture. I'll try for better photos when the sun is out.

I noticed that I'll need a taller front sight with the Skinner rear sight. I've ordered a red fiber optic front sight from Ranger Point Precision. They use a 0.040" fiber which is smaller than the standard 0.060" which should make it easier to hit at 100 yards or so.

Very nice. I would probably have gotten one rather than my BBB .357 if they had had one at my LGS. I'm not sure they were even available then.

More photos. Here is my case hardened family. The hawk was done by Tyler Gun Works who also did the Henry receiver.

Very nice CCH collection! Nice color on your new Carbine and give us some target results in the Range forum when you get a chance.
I am awaiting my new .357 BBS CCH to come in most likely another week out and hope the colors come out as good as yours!

What would that revolver be...a Uberti or Taylor's? I have the .45 Colt Taylors Running Iron which looks like yours except for the grip.

The revolver is a Cimarron El Malo 2 with a 3.4" barrel also in .357 mag.

Latest addition from HellHound. This leather wrap fits perfectly and makes racking the lever softer on the hand. Highly recommended. The last addition will be the front sight.

Congrats on the new toy. I love my .357 and have a RPP Cloverleaf and F/O front on my Marlin 1895 GS. Love their stuff. Kimberly is awesome.

Has anyone tried the Ranger Precision f/o Henry front sight with a Skinner Express rear sight?

Installed a Ranger Point Precision Henry red fiber optic front sight. Note that the sight has a pyramid top of the sight so you can use it if the red f/o doesn't show. It is slanted to the front so the rest of the sight doesn't interfere with sighting.
