I am partial to the brass myself, especially after seeing how nice Squatch's Henrys turned out after he polished them. But the silver ones look nice in the photos. I can't wait to see one in person.

interesting, nicely done article .... we have 2 Henry rifles (a 44 and a 45-70) .... I have absolutely no need but do have a strong desire to buy one of their 357's

My favorite centerfire caliber is the .357 Magnum. Both my Big Boy and revolver are in that caliber. This article will be a keeper.

Also liked the Buffalo Bore info. I already have some Buffalo Bore 140gr XPB ammo for my Henry as a go-to deer hunting round. I'd like to try out either of the bullets listed in the article in both of my .357s.

I have been plying with HSM Bearloads in my H&R 45-70 Handirifle, as they are a bit less expensive than the Buffalo Bore.

I have two of their .357 magnum bullets as well, and these were part of my "testing" when looking for a deer hunting round:
HSM Bear Ammo 158gr LRN FPGC
HSM 158gr PHP

I actually found the PHP round nice to shoot as a "play" or plinker, too.

with our family's reloading equipment boxed up for transport due to our oldest son moving from St Louis back to our home area, I've fired well over 500 HSM Cowboy Action loads in our Henry 45-70 .... price wise they are about half the cost of HSM's Bearloads .... ours group so nicely that I believe if an opportunity presented itself for us to need bear level loads (before our equipment is back in operation), it wouldn't take but a few rounds to adjust the scope .... with the lessened recoil of the Cowboy loads I have fired over a hundred rounds in a single session at the range without any of the negatives commonly associated to heavy recoil .... looking forward to how they perform in your Henry

I have been using the cowboy loads in my H&R 45-70 and I definitely like the reduced recoil. Don't have a Henry 45-70. Squatch does and he has been experimenting with low power loads using Unique powder.

once we get our RCBS and Hornady presses back in operation we want to develop low power loads for ours ... my only standards are I want to be able to fire accurately and punch a hole in paper at up to a hundred yards .... Unique is one of the powders we use, haven't gotten serious about researching other powders

Next batch I make up I intend to bump a few from 10 to 12 grs of unique. 405 gr should still put a hurtin' on target at 100 yds. So far I have little noticable drop between 25 and 50 yds with 10 grs Unique. You get a lot of pleasant shooting rounds out of a # of powder with these loads.

The Lyman lead book recommends 5744 for most any weight lead load. I just picked some up and will load some of those with Berry's copper plated 350's. They are supposed to be good for 1,700 fps. That's plenty hot in 45/70!

I looked at the silver rifles at the Gettysburg show. Very pretty!

I didn't see the silver ones, only the brass and steel. You should have pointed them out to me just to return the favor of my pointing out the Stevens.

I tried. They were right next to where we met Bandit! You were too busy trying to sell me another Stevens!
