Henry .44 BBB Classic new to me

Hi Guys
I have been posting here for a few days while waiting for my new to me Henry BBB Classic. First impressions very nice, it came with Henry scope rail and marbles tang sight and 100 new Starline cases. As you all know the action is very slick and it feeds 240 gn semi wads with no problems. A few posts have said the lack of a side loading gate is a problem, have to say it is not for me. My first lever gun was a Rossi and I always loaded it by pulling the mag tube out and dropping bullets in through the slot at the front of the magazine, exactly the same as the Henry. My second lever action was a marlin 45/70 and I had a lot of lead shaving and pinched fingers using the side loading gate.
I only use it as a 50 metre gallery rifle anyway so no need for rapid reloads, although you would be surprised how fast 10 bullets can be dropped in through the magazine tube slot.
Some have said the gun is heavy (octagonal barrel) but to be honest my Varmint barrel remmy 700 in .223 is heavier and the Henry is well balanced.
I have loaded some ammunition and will shoot it soon, hope it groups as well as I think it will.

Yep hope you like it and have good results with it.
The first Henry I ever held (and almost bought) was a BBB .44 Mag I saw in a local pawn shop in about 2007.
I remember really liking it but didn't want to have to deal with getting into loading another caliber I.E. new dies, brass bullets etc. AND I still had my Winchester Trapper in .357 at the time .
Well fast forward and I no longer own that Winchester but DO have a BBB in .357!

Took the gun to the range today, weather was poor very wet with low clouds and very poor visibility.
I put thirty rounds through it 10.3 Grains of Vitavihouri N340 behind a 240 grain lead swc, (should give about 1200 FPS in a pistol) shot in groups of five adjusting the tang sight between groups. At 50 metres all shots were on the target board and mostly showed good grouping. I will try again when the weather is better, the gun functioned perfectly and there was no sign of leading

Congrats on the new 44 and getting to shoot it. Pistol caliber lever guns are a lot of fun.

One thing I realised when I got to the range, the gun does not have the brass front sight it has a red fibre optic front sight, combined with the marbles tang sight it is pretty easy to see.

Good report, even with the weather. No leading is always a good thing. I have also thought about a different front sight for my BB steel in .45 Colt as the issued one covers any target at 50 yards and beyond. Pondering here. Well done with your .44.
Questin: Can you buy Hodgdon or Alliant powders in your home country?

Hodgdon and Alliant are difficult a lot of their powders do not comply with some eu requirements as they contain components claimed to be carcinogenic. I am not sure where we are at the moment but I think all import has been stopped.

A thought reference front sight covering target, I use pistol style targeting when using open sights on a rifle, that is I aim just below the black on a circular target and adjust for a ten ring strike. Logically this means always aim two to three inches low thus not obscuring the target with the front sight. I know that this is obvious but it is only for information.
