Scope on a Long Ranger?

How many of you guys have scoped your Long Ranger? I have one in .308 Win and waited for the version that has iron sights so that I could use it with or without a scope. I put a Vortex Razor HD LH 2-10x40 on mine for deer hunting, I don’t need much magnification here in central Oklahoma for deer hunting. While I love the combination I know that some believe that lever guns should not be scoped. What say you?

Leopold VX3 3.5x10x40 on mine, but I have no iron sights.
The gun is capable of shooting well beyond 500 yards, so a scope makes sense. Just because it is a lever gun doesn't mean iron sights are only acceptable. Why hold back your rifle by not having a scope?

I even have the fancy pants CDS dial for the ammo I shoot when hunting haha.

Henry's Long Ranger is patterned after Browning's BLR .... we purchased our Belgium made, first generation 308 BLR back in 1970 .... ours came with open sights that have never been used and continue to serve as a backup .... it was scoped with a 3X9 Nikon shortly after being taken out of the box .... a couple of years ago that scope was replaced with a Nikon 2.5X10 .... if I was to ever replace it, it would be with a 308 Long Ranger with open sights and would be scoped in the same manner

I will be scoping my new LR as I did with my Henry .30-30. For nostalgic reasons I'd rather not scope my levers, but my eye sight being what it is requires it.

I just got a long ranger 308 win with iron sights, it didn't come with the weaver bases like the un-sighted versions do. Is there a base I can get that won't block my view of the iron sights if the scope is removed?

Both the sighted and unsighted Long Rangers are supplied from the Henry factory with the Skinner two piece scope mounts. These should have been in the box with the rifle when you bought it. If they were not in the box contact HenryCS.

I have them installed on my Long Ranger and can still use the iron sights. If HenryCS won't send you a set, you can buy them from Skinner.

My mistake on the type of scope mounts that are supposed to come with the rifles. But on the Henry website the long ranger with iron sights does not have scope mounts listed as an embellishment/extra as the non-sighted version does.

I am contacting Henry's CS to see what to make of the situation.

below is a link to a YouTube video that presents a really good look at a scope mounted on a Long Ranger with iron sights .... with the sleek lines of that rifle, I can't envision see through scope mounts

I looked that up too to check. Ya you are correct. They had to have recently changed that. It used to say "included" on both sighted and unsighted. It did when I bought my sighted LR couple months ago. As for the one-piece Henry offers it is too tall when you want to use the iron sights.
Initially I was hesitant to use the Skinners because I did not think they would not allow enough eye-relief adjustment. So I went shopping for a low profile aftermarket mount. Unfortunately I could not find a one piece with the right hole spacing. I have a mount with a grove down the middle on my .30-30 that would work with the iron sights of the LR, but I would have had to drill my own holes in the mount for the 2nd mount location. On my LR receiver the holes are 1/2 inch apart (center to center) with 2-1/8 inches between the centers of the inner pair of holes. With the rings and scope I have, the eye-relief turned out not to be problem using the Skinner mounts.

Those are a nice one piece ring/mount pair that get that scope pretty low.

Ive not scoped any leverguns because Im lucky to still have decent eye sight. But to me it seems like trying to use both on the same gun would require the scope being mounted so hight that cheek weld might be an issue when using the scope. Just a thought.

It seems to me that the LR is designed for scopes, and the comb is higher to accommodate them without a cheek riser. That's been my experience, anyway. Had to put a riser on my 357 BBS, but the LR seems fine as-is. Your mileage may vary!

same experience as E^2. Also the iron sight on the LR fold over. So it's not in the way when using the scope. My scope is about as low as I can go with the Skinner 2-piece mounts and 0.75" rings. The scope objective is about 0.1" from the barrel.
