Well I finally purchased my first Henry after much reading and research! I’m a big fan of the old style lever guns, have a few Marlin 30-30s and decided to get a Henry .357 steel version to go with my .357 revolver! I’m excited about shooting it in the next few days but did have a few concerns with it.

The rifle forearm is a bit loose, I checked both screws and they are snug. I was going to try to take it off and maybe shim it but couldn’t figure out how to remove the dovetailed insert that the barrel band screws go into. The other issue is the wood on the stock doesn’t match up very well with the metal and there is a fairly big gap of just the metal and no wood covering it. There was also an area near the barrel band where the blueing was completely scraped off and a tiny patch of rust. I’ll try to take some pictures and post tonight to help show it.

My question is, from what I’ve read, Henry has great customer service. Would it be worthwhile to get them to send me a box and ship to them or would it be something they could send a new forearm/stock and I replace them myself? Thanks!

First off...welcome to a great forum from Western North Carolina. I too have the BBS 357 20". Mine also has very slight movement of the fore end. It is very slight, so not enough to bother me. I did however have a small blueing and rust area on the lever. Contacted Henry and they promptly sent me a replacement. Yes, their customer service is second to none. I know they will take care of ANY issues you have. I love mine!...post often...glad you are here!

I would email them with all the details you included above, along with photos and let Henry take it from there. My prediction is that they'll send you a prepaid shipping label and have you return it to them for either repair or replacement.
None of what you described is acceptable to an owner or to Henry, in my experience, so I'm sure I'm not alone here in urging you to contact Henry.

Excellent choice in caliber for your first Henry. And there are a bunch of .357 owners here on the Forum; lots of Folk to chat with about your rifle.

No doubt about it. Go after the top-notch CS, which Henry offers. They will take care of your BBS and be sure you're satisfied. Enjoy taking it out for your first range time.

Hey Tyler. Welcome from Nebraska! Three years ago I placed one of these rifles on lay away at Cabelas. 40 days later I learned that they had come out with the carbine. I ate the charge and returned the rifle. It took me a year to find a deal, and it paid off. I've owned my 357 steel carbine for 2 years and could not be more pleased.

Short answer, send it in. When finished, you will have a rifle to make your day.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and advice! Here are the pictures of the areas I mentioned, maybe I’m being a bit too picky? It’s a fine rifle and I definitely can’t wait to test it out; super smooth action that’s even better than my JM Marlins and I actually like the feeding tube a bit better personally.

The first pic is of the rifle and the next 3 are the areas I noticed some issues with.

Welcome to the forum Tyler. I also agree with the others I would send it back to Henry.I just did send one of mine back. They received it on the 7th I had it back on the 15th of January.

Thank you everyone! I emailed Dee and wow was the response quick and helpful! She replied within maybe 2-3 minutes of me sending the email and pictures and advised I send it in. She’s sending a box and prepaid label for it, great customer service!

Great! It is an inconvenience, however,let us know when you get it back if all issues were taken care of. I have no doubts they will be though.

I shipped the rifle off today, I wanted to get a chance to test shoot it before mailing it to ensure there weren’t any other issues. Man, she sure is a sweet shooter! The lever action was smooth and the gun was very accurate! Shot a few .357s and 38 specials in it... the lack of recoil and power make this a great shooting gun! Looking forward to getting it back!

Yeah it was such a sweet shooting rifle I had second thoughts about shipping it off... but decided to go ahead and do it now so it’ll be taken care of for the long haul!

You WILL be happy! I have the 357 H0012' 20" and no regrets...I love it!...let us know when you get it back!

The H012M was my first Henry and it's probably my favorite (right now, anyway). So much fun to shoot and so smooth.

You'll love it even more when you get it back without all those disturbing cosmetic issues.

Well I received my rifle back today and I have to say my reaction is a bit mixed. They did fix the loose forearm which was the biggest issue. However the areas where the blueing was missing and the big gap on the stock were not fixed. I’ve attached a few pictures here, what do you think? I really don’t want to send it in again because I like the rifle but I don’t like having the bluing missing or the wood not matching up with the metal.
