Impressed at first glance

Post by imeccentric » Sat Apr 30, 2016 5:23 pm

Picked up my new Henry 45-70 today and have to say I'm impressed. I have several other levers, but the fit and finish on this one is far and above. I had put off buying a Henry due to the loading tube, but remembered how I would cuss when I couldn't get a round in sometimes. I had looked closely at some of the new remlins there and there is no comparison. Now that Henry has gotten the bugs out of these, I am looking forward to putting many rounds downrange. As for those who complain the rifle is too heavy, I just can't imagine why. I carried an 11 pound M-14 in the jungle, and my AR-10 weighs more than the Henry; so, at 69, I wonder how soft the new generation is getting:)

I wonder about some of them, not all, but some.

Congratulations on your new 45/70. I hope to hear more about it as you get to know it better. Range reports would be nice too.

My step son told me he'd like to pick up a used Henry 45/70. I said all the gun shops I've been in lately, I have yet to see a used Henry for sale. I believe they are out there in the North East, but I don't think they are very plentiful. That tells me people like what they have.

Awesome! Thanks for the out of the box report and I'm really looking forward to your first range report that confirms your first impression; that you made a wise choice when you bought that Henry.

JEBar: Yep, I've reloaded for about 40 years and currently reload for about 9 different calibers. It seems information for these is all over the map, especially with three different specs out there. It will be fun, that I am sure of.

I liked your description a lot on how well the finished Henry looks and is put together.
That happens very often --- both the commentary and the out-of-box new Henrys!! :D

Enjoy your new .45-70.
