H010 capacity

Post by RClearman » Thu Aug 16, 2018 9:44 am

Hey guys, bought the H010B and have a question about the capacity. Manual says not to exceed capacity of 4. Looks like tube will hold 1 or 2 more rounds. Will this cause any damage if I ran an extra round or two in it?

_WELCOME!_.jpg
Greetings from the Northland in the Show-Me-State!

Congrats on your acquisition of the H010B Henry. I've shot my son's-in law Henry in that caliber, and it is a beauty to look at as well as shoot.

Re. your capacity Q. The H010B manual states "Do not exceed the capacity of the magazine, which is 4 rounds." I'd definitely follow that recommendation by Henry...they know what they've built. Also if you tried to add more rounds than the max allowed, I don't think you wouldn't be able to lock down the inner magazine tube. Hope this helps.

Enjoy that rifle, Clearman!

Welcome to the forum from CT. I second PT7's advice about following Henry's directions in the manual. Congratulations on your new rifle.

Thanks for the replies, I will follow the manual’s advice but I was wondering if anyone knows why only 4. Tube will hold 2 more rounds, but I didn’t put the inner tube back in because I was worried that maybe it would over compress the spring? Just wondering. Got the rifle yesterday morning and still haven’t had a chance to shoot it! Can hardly wait!

The outer tube may hold two more rounds, but the follower and spring in the inner tube takes up most of that space when compressed.

Also, welcome to the forum from the TV Oregon!

Welcome, and I had the same question about my H009. When I contacted Henry, I was informed that the limit was base on the rifle handling recoil safely not volume or capacity.

the number of rounds in the rifle can be increased to 5 by having 4 in the magazine and 1 in the chamber

The tube on my H009 won't close if try to load more than the stated capacity.

Thanks for the replies. I contacted Henry and received the following reply:

Thank you for owning a Henry rifle.

Even if there is room for it, do not overload the magazine. .45-70 shells are heavy, and combined with the strong recoil force will beat the magazine components out of shape or even break them if you add more weight than the mag structures are designed for.

This Henry response would make a good "sticky note" for future reference. What they said carries a little bit of a warning tone from Henry on how to keep from damaging your rifle.

Maybe under ammunition or centerfire rifles, or both? Or a new sub-forum just for Sticky Notes? Don't know the best way to build something like this. Maybe the mods can help out.

Actually, I did try it, and I added one more than max (6 instead of 5). But, I thought I should pose the question to Henry, in case it is something that I am not aware of. I thought of recoil, but I was not sure. I was watching a video about rifles (I believe), and recoil was a concern.

I wonder if you loaded 5 in the magazine but chamber empty. When you cycled the action to shoot you'd have the correct 4 in the magazine tube?
