Just a quick note to rave about my Big Boy Steel in .357. I've only been shooting for about 12 years now, so I'm a newbie compared to most of you.

This is my 1st centerfire rifle, I ordered it through a local gun store. I could not be happier.

A few observations:

• When they said .357 out of a long barrel is no slouch, they weren't kidding!
  This is a beautifully put together rifle - for just under $600
  After much research I bought a Montana Sling for it - I love that it's sewn and there's no hardware to clang against the stock, and the leather is gorgeous.

This is true! The .357 for all intents and purposes can equate the performance of a 30-30 to about 100 yards - and maybe a bit farther with good, handloaded ammo.
In it's CLASS the .357 Mag is probably the most versatile cartridge there is. Although many prefer the .45 Colt and .44 Mag over it reloading costs (as well as factory ammo) are considerably less for .357 with many more bullet choices available. If you compare velocities & energy of published reload data the .357 does not give up much to the .44 Mag. Also there is a rifle bullet, the .358 180 gr soft point that can be loaded in the .357 Mag and really improves hunting performance!
Did I say I like the .357 Mag!

It is just one fun rifle to shoot. I don't think anyone has tried mine without it putting a smile on their face.

Nice looking rifles - is that a tech sight on that 10/22?

Yup - I took off the scope and put those on - fun & accurate. Really nice fit & finish too

Thanks - I got it through Midway. In 2013 I set up a notification for when it became available. I had completely forgotten about it when I got an email a year later! I bought it right away and 20 min later they were sold out - crazy! Do they still make them?

Ruger still makes that beauty it is a distributor exclusive model through Lipsey's.
