Finally Ordered a Henry BBS Carbine in 44 Mag

Post by Rangerhgm » Wed Feb 21, 2018 11:00 am

After much debate, I finally ordered one.

I was torn between the 16.5" and 20" barrel, but after a lengthy discussion with a Henry technician about the gun differences, capabilities, etc and how I'd be using the gun, I ordered the Carbine...16.5" barrel.

I ordered it this morning at BudsGunShop.com and then called them to verify I'd be mailing a personal check later today. Not only did I get their advertised cash discount, but the girl I spoke to put me on hold for a few and when she came back she told me she was able to take another $21 off the price.

She told me they price their guns according to what they pay for each batch they order so the prices chance periodically. Luckily I bought the last one of their previous stocking because the price increased $17/gun on the new batch they just got in.

My lucky day.

Now I can start looking at ammo to feed it....SP, JSP, SJSP, HP, SJHP Decisions, Decisions, but fun ones

I have one, haven't shot it much. They are bad looking hombres, I think.
Check out these slings if you haven't already. They are handmade and add to the appearance along with being functional.

Congrats! Looking forward to seeing pics upon arrival.

I've always liked the feel of the BBS in rifle length and Brass in carbine length due to the heavy octagonal barrel. That said, the BBS in carbine is that much lighter, handier and more maneuverable. I'm sure you will love it. There really are no wrong answers here!

My 'almost' first Henry was a .44 BBB I saw in a LGS used and the first I held and admired. This was about 2008 or thereabouts. I had been following Henry for a couple years prior to that and about the only reason I did not buy it was because I did NOT want to get into another caliber and have to get dies & other reloading components for it but it never left my mind. Time went on and I was reading more 'Henry' info and reviewing the Website frequently and then in 2014 Stumbled on the BBB .357 in my local Bi-Mart in LaPine - needless to say it went home with me the next day!

Good stuff. Nothing like a Henry that makes big holes in things!

FINALLY picked up my Henry BBS 44mag Carbine last night.

I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do about sights. With my eye sight, open sights don't work very well. I thought I'd rig up a test peep sight out of plastic or cardboard to test with and see it peep sights might be an option. If not then I'll probably go with a small 1-4x or fixed 4x scope. (any scope suggestions?)

I've read a lot of reviews so the quality is exactly what I expected.

Absolutely perfect fit where wood and metal meet. The wood has very nice grain, with no blemishes or imperfections and the metal is perfect with no scratches.....of course after a few hunting trips all of this will change....lol

The action has to be one of the smoothest I've ever felt.

I did pick up some ammo for it. Fiocchi 240gr JSP and American Eagle 240gr JHP, but until I decide on what sights, or scope, to go with I'll have to delay getting it to the range. Trying to use the open sights, with my eyes, I'd just be throwing lead.

Though they still show on their website, I didn't find any in stock when I recently looked. The scope? A Leupold compact 2.5X fixed power. It's a short, light little scope that would look great on that rifle.

I've got the same rifle and probably similar eyes. On ours, we used a peep setup with a Skinner Low-Pro (8-40 threads) on the rear and a Lyman .404" Globe on the front. This rig works great when I wear a set of Lowes 1.5X or 2X mag safety glasses. The sights are clear and I can still make out the target...
