H011 Original

Hi. New guy here. Looking at my first Henry purchase soon. Opinions on an H011 original? I'm about 99% sold on a big boy 44 mag but I sure do like the old timey appeal of the original in 44.40. Very pricey in Canada though.
Thoughts? The rifle will accompany me in the mountains and back country horseback, and around the ranch. Thanks folks.

Welcome, I'd suggest the original in .44-40 AKA .44WCF that's a really historic ctg & one that's pretty useful too. I've looked at the Henry web & that Original is a great looking rifle. If your budget can stand it that's what I'd go for.
Let us know what you decide.

Thks. I hear ya it's just our crappy Canadian dollar that's killing me right now. The $2500 rifle is around $3500+ by the time it's in the scabbard here. Ouch.

You've picked a beauty if you go for the H011. It's an
exceptionally sharp-looking rifle with, as you said, has that neat "old timey appeal."
I know nothing about the rules/regs for firearms purchasing in Canada. Can you buy a rifle from a US shop? Or is the FFL shipping (if you have that) restrictive in Canada?
I ask because an LGS in Kentucky sells many online firearms and at reasonable prices. At this time Bud's Gun Shop has the H011 priced at $1698 USD. There is no shipping charge within the US, but don't know about international purchases -- there might be a charge. Anyway, just wondering if you can go there?

It will be interesting to hear more of the ins/out about firearms in Canada from time-to-time. Best on getting your next Henry choice! And looking forward to some pictures of it.

P.S. Hickok45 has a cool video on the H011. Enjoy!

There's some pretty tough gun laws here regarding USA to Canada and many US dealers can't sell here by the looks of it. Our version of your FFL is our PAL (possession and acquisition) license.
Big Boys are available and affordable here so that's likely what I'll do. Although there would be some irony I suppose in my wife shooting me with my brand new H011. Haha.

Sorry your laws are so strict we really do need to fight gun laws here.
Hope you are able to get a nice rifle.

Hi, Northern Neighbor.
PAL -- Hmmm.
Sorry to hear there are those tough gun laws. Still, the Big Boy is a fine choice. My BBB is in .357 caliber, but the .44 magnum will do nicely.
Don't forget, it's really neat to see pictures posted here -- especially of any new, just-out-of-box Henrys!

I have 3 Henry's. I don't own an Original. They are all great. But I love the Big Boy. 44 mag ammo is a lot cheaper and easier to come by than 44-40. So is 45 colt and 357 mag. That alone make it the more practical rifle. But it's not always about being practical. I've held an original in hand and they are a drool worthy gun.
