Does anyone use a Sims Limbsaver recoil pad on their Henry 45/70? If so which model number? Thanks in advance...

first, welcome to our forum, happy to have you with us .... is your 45-70 one of the brass models that comes with a metal butt plate ? .... there has been a good bit of discussion of lessening a 45-70's felt .... here is a link to a discussion about using a slip-on recoil pad ===> http://henryrifleforums.com/viewtopic.p ... eez#p45124 .... ours is a color case hardened model that came with a factory installed recoil pad .... being on blood thinning meds I have made several mods to ours that allows me to fire it without bruising ....

1. replaced OEM recoil pad with the top of the line Kick-eez recoil pad

2. inserted a 3" mercury recoil suppressor in the stock

3. had it Mag-na-ported

I've been using a combination of such upgrades since the 70's and it has consistently yielded significant reduction in felt recoil in a variety rifles and shotguns .... individually, each has proven to make a positive reduction .... collectively, that reduction is magnified .... as noted, I've used them with such rifles as a bolt action 300 WBY Mag and 3 light weight (synthetic stock) 30-06's .... in addition 2 Remington 11-87 12 gauges .... you can find a good bit more info using the forum search feature with such words as Mag-na-port, mercury recoil suppressor, and/or Kick-eez

I too am on blood thinner for a cardiac issue. I use a Past pad that straps to my shoulder to spread out the recoil of my Savage 99-358 and my Marlin Guide Gun. Try it you will like it.

There is a link on the Limbsaver website to their template guide.

It shows the outline and size of all their pre-fit pads. You need to consult that guide to determine the pad that is the closest fit.

I too use a wearable recoil pad. Saves buying different pads for different guns.

I,too, use the wearable shoulder pad by Past. I bought it for use with my .45-70 Marlin 1895 CB. Lately, I also have been using with my Henry .44 Mag BBB. I have hyped up my hand loads for that rifle, and the felt recoil was getting my attention after firing 20+ rounds.

just curious .... are you using powder charges higher than the ones published in reloading manuals .... if so, other than an increase in recoil, what have been your observations about velocity .. .. have you noticed any signs of high pressure in any of your casings .. .. any indications that higher speeds are having a negative impact on the bullets performance upon impact ..
