Here's a question I have to all my fellow Henry rifle owners/shooters and enthusiasts.
If you own any one of the following; Savage 99/308, Browning BLR/308, Sako Finn Wolf/308, Winchester 88/308 or any others I may have missed.
My question is, is there a need to own the new Long Ranger in 308?

I ask this because I just handled one at my LGS and I really liked the way it felt when I shouldered it and what not. I just can't get past the asking price in CAD funds of $1250.
I am an owner of a post 64 Winchester 88/308 which was passed down to me from my older brother and dad previous. Its faired it share of fallen game and most recently I just re-zeroed it with some 150gr Barnes TSX and Varget powder. Groups at 100yds were sub moa
She wears a Leupold VXI 3-9x40 and like I said has faired well with putting meat on the table.

I watched and re-watched Gunblasts review on Youtube and immediately said to myself "I want, I must have".
What are your thoughts, especially from those that own one of these or the others listed.
How do they compare? Alloy receiver good or bad or could be better? Are they worth it?

back in late 1969/early1970 I bought a Belgium made Browning BLR 308 .... I've carried it in the woods more than all other rifles I've ever owned combined .... it is supremely accurate and isn't fussy about ammo .... the locking bolt and general design of a Henry Long Ranger is very similar to the BLR .... ours is pushing 50 years old and has earned every blemish .... I've held one Long Ranger and Henry has prettier wood .... as I remember the last new BLR I saw at Cabela's was listed for around $1,500 ... if I was to buy a new lever action 308 to day it would be a Long Ranger .... as to buying a second lever action 308, that's a question of personal choice .... for me there are other calibers that I don't have that I'd buy first

My trusty 88 has done me well. Put many a critter in the freezer and on the table. I like to go by the K.I.S.S. rule so I tend to stick to certain calibers. Those being .223 and .308 bullets. I do have one 25-06 and most recently a 38-55.
Since I cast boolits I find the .308 one that I cast the most. So a new lever in 308 won't be in the way of anything
Maybe a next years project with the Long Ranger.

it would really be great to have someone with other 308's contrast their performance with a Long Ranger .... if/when you do, I'm looking forward to going along with you in your range reports .... I do have some friends who base (most) of their collections based on caliber .... 308 and 30-30 are a couple of their favorites

You prolly need to move down here. They're only about $800 here.
