Hi all new member here first post I'm in the process of getting my first Henry rifle and I'm really leaning towards the big boy steel carbine in 357 and would like to get some input on this model compared to other 357 models any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance

first, welcome aboard .... very happy to have your join us .... you will find a good bit of info on Henry 357's, they are fine rifles .... while I'm sure the Carbine models do a good job, we decided to go with the Henry Big Boy Steel H012M Rifle instead of with the carbine .... the rifle does weigh a bit more (.41 of a pound) but its longer barrel should help it develop a bit more muzzle velocity and allows it to hold 10 rounds as opposed to 7 in the Carbine .... once you have yours, please take a look at our How Many ? I have the BBB 357 as well as the BBS 357. I also have the BBS Carbine in 45 Colt.
The shorter length of the carbine makes it very handy in thick brush but it also will attain slightly less velocity due to the shorter barrel. I find that the longer sight radius of the standard barrel helps when using iron sights at least to my old eyes.
That being said I love my BBS 45lc Carbine and installed Skinner peep sights on it making it much easier on my old eyes.

I have the BBS357 carbine. I am still in the process of setting this gun up, having just put a scope on it. I love this rifle. It is so easy to handle you can hold in one hand pointing straight down and it clears the ground by 10 inches. I understand the comments about site radius and increased velocity, but I find that the shorter barrel is much easier to handle and certainly adequate. Good luck with your new Henry whichever one you get. These are fine rifles.

I have fired a Big Boy Brass .357, and it was a really nice rifle. I suggest you think about what you plan to use your Henry for. The rifle gives you more magazine capacity, a longer sight radius and more velocity. The carbine is handier, lighter, easier to carry around, and easier to fit in a truck/car/atv.

If your intent is to carry it on long walks in thick brush or woods, I would get the carbine and put Skinner peep sights on it.
I bought the rifle as the area I hunt while having thick brush often opens up to areas over 100 yards.
I mounted a 2-7 Leupold rimfire scope on it as it is an extremely light scope and the parallax is set at 60 yards.

I have the BB steel in 357 rifle and the BB steel in a 44 mag carbine.
Like said above Carbine is eaiser to pack in thick brush.
Either way U won't go wrong as it is a Henry....

Thanks for all the info I'm in New York so carrying in my car is out but my club has a nice 50 and 75 yard range so I figured that's the best choice as far as ammo versus the 30/30 plus gives a great reason to get a 357 pistol LOL

A BBS 357 is great choice for your first (but probably not your last) Henry. 357 Mag is really fun to shoot and if it's too stiff for someone new to shooting you can always load 38Special. In my opinion, the steel Bigboys are some of the best balanced rifles that Henry makes - they just feel right when you point them or carry them. Put on a Skinner rear sight and a Lyman front globe and you have the perfect Henry rifle setup...

That's Lyman globe sounds interesting. Do you have a pic of your rifle set up?

That's Lyman globe sounds interesting. Do you have a pic of your rifle set up?
