Gents,

I'm happy to be a part of this forum and I look forward to learning a lot from all of you. I just bought my first Henry
via an online retailer(Southern Ohio gun) and it had a few issues when I took receipt of it:

1) The rear of the bolt does not sit flush with the rear of the receiver. My harbor freight depth gauge shows that the right side of the bolt is between .04"-.05" inset from the receiver. Pictures attached.
2) The stock was cracked on the wrist, perpendicular to the tang.
3) The rear sight moved left and right with finger pressure.

Rather than send it back to SOG, I contacted Henry, who promptly sent me a return label. I sent the rifle to them and I was pleasantly surprised when I got the rifle back in about two weeks. Two weeks may sound like a long time, but when you factor in shipping to Wisconsin and the shipping back to Southern California, that is a quick turnaround in my book! The issues addressed were: the stock was completely replaced and the rear sight was completely replaced as well and no longer moves by simple touch; however, the bolt still does not sit flush with the receiver. The letter included with the rifle says they replaced the bolt, so I think it's the actual receiver. Attached are a few pictures. Is this normal? I'm trying to decide if this is something to get the rifle replaced over and would like to know if this is a known issue on Henrys.

first, welcome to our forum, hope you will read and post often .... hearing positive reports about Henry's service after the sale is no surprise but its always good to hear .... please take a look at our How Many ? thread (link below) and add your Henry to our community total

That does not look normal. My .357 BBS rifle bolt is flush with the receiver in the fully closed position.

I have a BBS .357 Carbine and the bolt is recessed in the fully closed position. Didn't measure it, but could be almost 1/32". I wouldn't worry about it. Mine shoots fine.

I've also noticed that half of the tang sits about 1/16" of an inch below the wood line and the other half does not. I wonder if half the receiver just did not get machined properly, as the wood looks even...

My bolt is a little recessed,357 BBB, but not as much as yours. Tang is also a little recessed, but not bad.

Why not send those pics to HRA and ask their opinion? They might say no problem, or if it is I'm sure they'll make it right.

On my BB steel carbine when the bolt is closed the rear is flush with the receiver edges. However, some variations may occur and if it fires while locked up it may only be an appearance issue. I am with RR, get in touch with Henry, they will make it right.

Solid advice all around. I sent the pictures in an email to Henry tonight. I don't expect anyone to be working this weekend, so I hope to hear sometime next week. I'll keep ya'll posted.

As others have said, in the closed position my bolt is very slightly recessed into the receiver. The rifle shoots fine and it is not an issue for me.
