I currently have a Skinner peep on my 357 and it works well for shorter ranges and snap shots. I wanted to put a low power scope on this rifle but the only mount I know of is the one that Henry makes. Unfortunately this places the scope much higher above the bore than I prefer. Is anyone one aware of a Weaver rail that will fit this receiver using the existing mount holes?

I'm not worried about the rear sight clearance since I've already removed it and placed a blank in the dovetail. Though I prefer irons on a lever gun, my old eyes would appreciate a compact scope or red dot. Anything larger, like a 3-9X40, just sits too high above the bore. This ruins a good cheek weld and hampers the natural pointability of this slick little rifle.

I got a Weaver rail at my LGS. It fits two of the drilled/tapped holes on my Big Boy steel perfectly. The third required a little work with a small round file. I went with this rail because it was cheap and readily available. I wanted to try out a small red dot scope on the Henry. I was planning on replacing it with the Henry rail, if I decided to keep the scope on the Henry. That was almost 2 years ago, and the Weaver is still on it.

I forgot to mention that the Weaver rail on my BB is definitely lower profile than the Henry rail. I believe the Weaver ran a little under $10. It's aluminum, so the modification to it was pretty easy. Just don't take too much off at one time. I thought about using a counter sink bit in the drill press, but decided set up time would be too time consuming, so I free handed it with a small file. Didn't take long.

The one for the Henry Big Boy Steel will be black and is money well spent in my opinion. It's a better quality rail than the Henry rail cause once screwed down...it's not coming loose unlike the Henry rail...which will come loose over time with magnum ammo. Been there and done that and I won't go back. I have two of these rails mounted on a Henry Big Boy Steel chambered in 357 Magnum and another one chambered in 44 Magnum.

That is a different rail than the one I used.

Ranger Point Precision...there based out of Cypress, Texas. I'll post a link to there website below. The rail for the Henry Big Boy Steel is a precision rail. It and my new scope setup has moved my groups under a inch @ 100 yards. What I know now of this rail...I'd gladly pay $50 bucks with a big smile on my face.

Just remember to use some blue loctite on the screws after you clean the oil out of the holes on top of the receiver. Also, the rail will have some oil on it and will need to be degreased as well.

I have a Ranger Point rail on mine too. For the reason the original poster stated, to lower the scope. I bought a Weaver rail for a Marlin and thought about modifying it. I figured it would not be as strong with an elongated hole so I bought the Ranger Point one. I also replaced the rear sight with a folding leaf in case I was out and about and had a scope problem. I never liked that spring loaded ramp thingie.
