Over the weekend, I was doing a lot of reloading, including a couple of boxes of 35 Remington. Sure would be nice if Henry would make a 35 Remington lever gun.

We could start our own thread here (like MarlinOwners) "What is the 35 Remington Advantage"

One advantage a 35 Remington has if you hand load is being able to load cheaper priced pistol bullets made for the 38 or 357 Mag. Allows practice rounds for a lower cost and are like feeding varmints a grenade when fired from a rifle. I can also load Speer capsules for snake loads for my 35. As much as I like my Zane Grey octagon 30-30 it is no where near how much I like my 35's.
I would like to see Henry build a 35 Remington styled like the older Marlin 336 SC and maybe offer it with case colored receiver. For me the pistol grip would be best. That is a Henry I would buy if I had to sell something else to get it. The 444 Marlin in the Henry would be another I would like to see made. A Henry would look good in the style of this 1960 35 SC.

What are you currently shooting in 35 Remington?

back in the late '60's when I bear hunted in the mountains of NC the two most common rile calibers were the 30-30 Winchester and 35 Remington .... I've never fired a 35 but have seen its results on black bear .... where would a 35 fit into Henry's lineup, what niche would it fill ?

I think 35 Remington is like 41 mag it has a cult like following. Guys that own one love them and want more. The only way to justify one is reloading for one much like the 41 mag. I own 41 mags but not a 35 Remington. Im not in anyway dishing them just my opinion of the cartridge in general. Al

Factory ammo for 35 Remington is not ridiculously priced, but it does cost about twice as much as factory 30-30. Reloading it definitely brings the cost down a lot.

Great! I like the 336. Classic rifle and a great hunting rifle.

What about pumps? I have a Remington 141 that I picked up years ago. I restored it, because it was mechanically really good, but had faded blue and scuffed wood. They're not collectible as much as old leverguns, but work just as well in the woods. It makes a nice pairing with a 16 ga. Rem. model 31 .

thanks for bringing up the 141, having never seen one, it motivated me to look it up and do some reading about its history

I own a 35 Remington in a single shot pistol that I acquired from my brother. He reloaded for it and used it for bear. I would buy a 35 Remington lever gun. I also have 41 Mag in hand gun and Henry.

True. The 35 Remington has always had a string following in the Contender single shot pistol.

The cartridge is somewhat regional in its popularity, it seems. Have friends in New England that tell me the 35 is even more common and popular than the 30-30. Here in northern Wisconsin, though, we don't see as many 35s as 30-30s. Ammo is definitely harder to find in 35 Remington.

I handload for my 35. Once you get some brass together, it's not really much more expensive than loading 30-30.

I live in a much more populous area of Wisconsin than "Up North" where NCG lives, and here factory ammo is normally around, but usually only in two flavors, 200 grain Corelokts and Hornady Leverevolution. I think Federal and Winchester still load for 35, but I have never seen any in a store. Factory ammo is normally about $30 a box, as opposed to about $16 for 30-30. The 35 Remington Advantage folks at the Marlin Owners Forum swear by the 35.

All I know is that it's a heckuva lot more fun to shoot than 30-30. Not sure why. Maybe it's like shooting a 45 acp 1911 is really enjoyable.

I wonder if they ever choose to offer a rifle in 35 Remington, if they would do so in a Big Boy or Long Ranger line ?

I don't see it as a Long Ranger, as 35 Remington is not a long range cartridge. Factory 35 ammo is loaded only with roundnose bullets for use in lever guns with tube magazines.

If Henry does ever make a 35, presumably it would be along the lines of either the current 30-30 or 45-70 models.
