I have a new Big Boy Steel Carbine in .357 Magnum.
I have had my mag tube rod pop out of the gun while firing at both my first two trips to the range.
I am pretty sure both times I had it locked as far as it could go. Is the recoil rocking it loose?

Both times it was on the first few shots....once .357 and the other .38 Special, not +Plus.

Is this common and user error, or is it something that may need to go back to Henry for a look?

Other than that...its fun to shoot and very accurate once I figure out the sights.

we've never had that happen with any of our Henry rifles .... our 357 doesn't have enough recoil to cause such a thing .... I'd recommend you call Henry customer service and see if they are familiar with an issue of this type

The mag tube on our .357 BB steel has been launched twice. Both times it was while either inserting or removing the tube. Unfortunately, both times it was at the indoor range and we had to get the operators to come call a cold range and retrieve it for us. Range rules.

Both happened early on.

That is NOT normal. Call Henry CS and describe how you load your rifle. They'll explain what may be going wrong or offer you a way to fix it.

Is the rubber o-ring on the end of your magazine tube? Sometimes they have a tendancy to "roll" off when the rifle is pulled out of a gun case. If the o-ring is missing the tube can sometimes unlock during a recoil - especially when there are only one or two rounds in the tube (less spring compression on the locking mechanism).

The o-ring is intact however there is a little play...it does not hold the end cap tight against the magazine. Seems like the o ring needs to be thicker.

I emailed last night and I got a lightening quick response offering to ship back (prepaid UPS) to fix the issue.
Wow...that is impressive. I am not sure it needs to go in, so I am going to call and talk to them.

I personally would just take a claw hammer and mash the tube closed ....... Just joking

no surprise, in fact predictable response from Henry .... their service after the sale is exceptional

I just want to avoid sending it back, if it just needs new rod, or different o ring.
Do they do things fast?

They are very prompt. I had to send my H006M back to them for a defective firing pin; it was returned about a week later and has been shooting great ever since.

Do you think it is "user error" or something with how well the tube seats? The pin on the rod seems fine and the notch looks good.
However, there is a bit of play in that there seems a bit of space between the o ring and front of magazine.

Mine just slipped out of my hand and launched into the shooting area. Every time I have fastened it correctly, it has stayed in place.

Doing some internet research it sounds like there are two fixes...one is crimping tighter on the tube magazine (I prefer to Have Henry do that one) and the other was thicker o ring on the inserted rod.

It was operator error. I'm not saying who did it, but it wasn't me.

Could be an age thing. 1 in 5 men suffer from premature mag tube ejection.
