My first trip to range...new Henry Big Boy

Took my newly arrived Big Boy Steel Carbine in .357 to the range and all went pretty well.
My first lever action andI found that if you are sheepish in cycling, the round will fail to feed straight into the chamber and bugger
things up. Other than that, the magazine rod flew out down range the first two times I loaded....embarrassing in front of all
the fancy semi automatics and AR's. I was able to retrieve with the brass broom without shutting down the range each time.
That is why you practice.

all three of our Henry rifles have proven to work best when the lever is worked smoothly but firmly .... the more we use them the smoother the actions have gotten .... understood on the flying magazine rod ..

I need a lever wrap ASAP...not that comfortable on your hand.
I did forget to say...its pretty accurate out of the box shooting .357...not quite as accurate with the .38 Special loads.
I think the accuracy issue was getting used to the buckhorn site and how it should be used. Windage was right on, elevation
was off due to my figuring out the sites...I did not bench it and adjust on this first trip as it may not need much.

That brass tube rod is your last resort when you run out of ammo. Aim, release the pin and run like hell!
Yes, you have to channel your inner John Wayne with the lever. Enjoy your new Henry!

Congrats on your first lever-action. I don't think you could have made any better choice than the Henry Big Boy Steel Carbine in .357 Magnum.....great caliber and smooth, accurate rifle!

You mentioned needing to get a leather wrap. If you look at lower right of the HRF banner section, you'll see one of the companies listed by Daytime Dave as recommended places to get equipment/accessories, etc., for our rifles. Click on Ricochet Roy's link and you'll find he offers some leather lever wraps. I don't have one on my SGC, but I know other Henry folk use them and like them.
