Henry Rifle Forums

I am looking for the 45-70 in the case hardened but everyone I have looked at says sold out. Is Henry running behind or are the stores online just not carrying them?

I went thru the same thing when I bought mine last year. It took me a while to find one, because everyone was sold out. Hang in there, and just keep checking the dealers. They'll get some eventually. You'll be glad you waited and didn't settle for something else. Love mine.

pretty much the same story back when I was in the market for one .... none were said to be available .... I deal with a small gun shop that sales bunches of firearms .... the owner called Henry and within a day they had located one that was shipped to him the next day .... when he told me that he was going to call Henry he said that he'd found they could usually help and were happy to do so ....

I had the same problem..It seems that the vendor that color case hardens the receivers does so in lots, and the popularity has caught some by surprise, and finally a lot of States just opened up the hunting season from shotgun only to also include straight cartridge rifles.

Really? Hadn't heard that. Could you tell me the states or send me a link where I can read about it? I'd like to write my state representative and ask him to introduce legislation here in Ct to do the same and having some examples of other states having done the same would probably be a help. Thank you.

Hey 2few - I think Ohio is one of those states that just put the green light on hunting with straight wall cartridge rifles. Good luck on getting a CT state rep to do anything to help out a gun owner....

Hey 2few - I think Ohio is one of those states that just put the green light on hunting with straight wall cartridge rifles. Good luck on getting a CT state rep to do anything to help out a gun owner....

Yeah....I know....Ct SUCKS when it comes to firearms rights. Our most recent gun law changes require me to pay a $35 "long gun certificate fee" every 5 years just to be allowed to purchase ammunition or a long gun. Pocket change I know, but I REFUSE to buy that permit. So instead I buy ammo and long guns in NY where I can still buy ammo "over the counter" and purchase long guns from an FFL simply by passing the standard background check required in all states.

As to Ct State Representatives...I wouldn't pish on most of them if their hair was on fire. But in this small area of NW Ct we replaced a bad one with a good one in November. He's an Iraq veteran, VFW, volunteer fireman, etc. I've shot with him at the range and he eats at my restaurant. So I trust him--CAUTIOUSLY. Remains to be seen what he'll do now that he is an "elected official" but their is NO WAY he could be any worse than what he replaced.

I'll check on what Ohio did and thanks for the info. Our "new guy" is good people, but if I am going to ask him to consider proposing legislation I want to make very certain that I do as much research as possible so that I can offer a good case. Ct is shotgun only on public land and I see no reason that shouldn't be extended to include rifles that fire pistol caliber ammunition.

Not sure that I'd consider .45-70 to be a "pistol caliber." Lol.

As has been stated, Ohio opened up their regulations about 2 or 3 years ago. They have allowed hunters to use pistols in select calibers for years, but were persuaded to allow rifles in those calibers to be legal, as well. Rather than get too specific about it, they basically allowed just about any straight-wall cartridge to be used. So, that includes .45-70, .444, etc., along with a bunch of obsolete calibers that you don't hear much about these days. I have not heard of any negative effects or pushback from this change.

Indiana also changed their regulations recently, but theirs are a bit more arcane than Ohio. Don't remember the specifics.

I live in NJ and can totally cope with you about CT. Luckily, I am very close to PA and will just get my rifle hunting fix over there. I prefer to hunt with a rifle, and the closet thing to that in NJ is either a slug gun or a muzzleloader, neither of which are my firearm of choice. It would be nice to be able to use a rifle shooting pistol rounds here as well. It would appease the concerns over how flat the land is here and unwanted/unsafe bullet travel.

If they do a CH .357 I will be in trouble

That is exactly what I did. I had one on order for a couple of months. I sent the email to Anthony and in a couple of weeks I had a new H010CC! What a beautiful rifle.
