Just purchased (traded) for a Brass 45/70 Henry. I was looking at lever action rifles and went behind the counter to see what all he had in a Henry rifle. He first showed me a 45 Colt but I already have a SS Rossi 92 in 45 Colt. Started looking at the 44 Mag's already have Marlin and 357 Mag again already have a Marlin. Then I saw the 45/70 Brass Henry. Perfect, picked it up laid it on the counter and we traded even with a box of 45/70 Hornady ammo included.

do you plan to load your own ammo ? .... Cowboy Action Ammo works well in ours without painful recoil

Nice rifle, post some pics. What did you trade for your Henry? Remember, without pics it didn't happen.

I did state what I traded but that part of the post was deleted because I mention a Politicians name. Just the name nothing else. I traded an AR-15 for it. My mistake that wont happen again.

Anyway, the last site that I was on that was so restrictive I did not stay long because you really could not discuss anything. I had them remove my name and will never go back. I am a member of several gun sites, I am hoping this site will be a joy to participate in also. I will hang around and see though.

Yes eventually I do plan to load for it. I just have to quit buying so many guns so I have some cash to buy the dies and plates for the Dillon 550B. I probably will not shoot it a whole lot till I do reload for it. I have too many lever actions with cheaper ammo and stuff that I do reload for. Like 357 and 44 Mag. Oh I also for got 45 Colt.

But I am looking forward to starting the process as soon as I can fit the bill.

That is a beautiful rifle and great photos. My wife and I have a couple of AR's that are phenomenal and boringly accurate. But, nothing beats shooting a great lever gun. We put way more rounds thru our Henry Big Boy than any other rifle.

Please stick around. I found this forum recently and it is made up of people that are of the same quality as the rifles we love.

all great calibers .... its beautiful indeed .... do you plan to fit it with a slip on recoil pad when firing full power loads ?? ....

As far as fitting it with a recoil pad. No, I am only 5'5" tall, so I usually cut my stocks down 1" when I get a new rifle. This rifles length of pull is not to bad but would like it a little shorter. So really a, debating about cutting a 1" off the end of the stock and putting a very shorter recoil pad or just a plastic end on the stock. If I put a pad on it I will have to shorten it over an inch though. So really not sure, I may just leave it.

I did shorten my pump action Henry 1" and it feel absolutely great to shoot now. Fits me perfect now. I have blended the stock to where you can not tell that it has been shortened. This picture you can see where I sanded the stock and but plate to even them.

just curious, have you added your Henry rifles to our How Many thread .... if not, please consider doing so

Ok Guy's/Gal's,

Took the butt stock off today and shortened it to an 11.5" pull. That took some time. I had to leave the top of the Butt Plate proud instead of counter sunk like it came from the factory. If I would have counter sunk it I would not have been able to use the factory drill hole in the butt plate. I also had to move the sling swivel forward about 1.5 to 2". I will get better pictures of it tomorrow after I get the stock stained to match and still working on filling the hole that the sling swivel stud was in.

One thing I am pretty happy with the way she turned out. The stuck looks a little shorter on the rifle but not to bad. It shoulders so much better for my small frame. I am only 5'5" and now she shoulders sweet. I also have a bad rotator cuff in my right arm so shorter length of pull is just better all the way around.

Here is a quick picture, like I said I will get some better picture tomorrow.

I agree, very nice work. That is a very nice Birdshead Vaquero. Is it in .45 Long Colt? I handled a blue version the other day. I really liked it.

Here are some better pictures of the rifle. I think the next thing I will order is a set of Skinner Barrel mounted rear peep sights for it. Then it will be done and ready for the range.

Yes that is a 45 Colt Vaquero (Not a New Vaquero) It goes really well with my SS Rossi 92 in 45 Colt. Here is kind of a picture what I like in Guns. I guess I have old time taste.
