Long Ranger Thought

I'm not in the market for another firearm of any type but that could change in a heartbeat .. ;) .. in thinking about it, if Henry was to add a 30-30 to their clip fed Long Ranger line, I would be very interested .... as a reloader, being able to load a 30-30 with any shape/style 30 caliber bullet is most appealing ..... for me it would pump new life in a classic cartridge

Interesting idea, but I seriously doubt it would ever happen. The Long Ranger's reason for existence is to allow the use of pointy bullet cartridges, such as .308, in a lever gun. At the risk of starting an argument, I suspect most people think .308 is superior to 30-30 (they may be mistaken, but I don't think it would be easy to change their minds).

An LGS near me has a bolt action 30-30. If I had some extra money, I'd be very tempted to buy it.

I would think market for such as gun would be pretty low, but the idea is interesting. I have heard they are coming out with other calibers.... wonder what all they will be?

Like most things in life, each caliber has it's own strengths and weaknesses. There is little doubt that 308 has superior ballistics at longer ranges than 30-30. 30-30 has long had a reputation as a great brush gun caliber.

If one caliber was superior in all respects, there would be little choice in firearms.

decades ago our family chose 30 caliber to build our collections of hunting rifles .... we reload for 30-30, 308, 30-06, and 300 WBY .... we have an early edition Winchester Model 94 30-30 that in my Grandfather's hands has taken more bear and dear than I will ever see, but has been seldom used for many years .... I have a 308 Browning BLR that is one of my favorites and in my book, 308 is a superior caliber .... for me, a 30-30 Long Ranger would not replace our BLR but it would be something I would enjoy coming up with various loads using Spitzer bullets

I guess Im from the old school. I think the 30-30 belongs in a lever. I have been tempted several times to grab a 30-30 CCH just so my 45-70 isnt lonely.

ours is one of the first generation made in Belgium ..... a year ago I had the recoil pad (over the years it had gotten hard) and while the gunsmith was in there he installed a Mercury Recoil Suppressor .... it is one that will be passed on down the line
