Tell me I'm crazy

So......I am very fortunate that I have the guns I want/need. But......
I am thinking about buying a Henry 45-70 Color Case Hardened rifle and having the barrel cut down from 22" to the 18.43"
I have the walnut/blue and the AW 45-70 guns but having a CC with the barrel cut down is causing me to itch.
I don't even know who I could send it to to cut, crown the barrel and cut the front sight dovetail.
Am I crazy?

its not something I'd do but its certainly not crazy .... there is nothing wrong with making legal modifications undertaken as a matter of preference .... I strongly endorse one of our members, Bobby Tyler (Tyler4656 ), owner of Tyler Gun works ===>
http://tylergunworks.com/ <=== he does outstanding work .... should he not be able to perform the mods you are interested in, my bet is he can steer you in the right direction ....

Crazy? No. Benjamin Tyler Henry was probably told that he was crazy for trying to make a different type of rifle. Fortunately for us, he didn't listen, so if you want to experiment, then go for it.

Sounds like that would be a very sweet rifle to me. However, most people that know me think I am crazy!

Go for it. I modify a lot of rifles to match my taste. You are only crazy if you have a dream and don't live it.

I have my eye on that model myself, and your mod sounds like a good one to me. Just bought my Big Boy so I will have to save up for awhile to get one of these. If you do it let us know how the short barrel mod works out and some details on the project.

Just remember if you have an "issue" with the rifle later on I think H.R.A. could rightfully not repair it because of the "modification".

Thanks for the link JEBar, when the time comes I'll contact them to get their input.
I plan on calling Henry before I do this. I do not expect them to honor any of the warranty of course because I am altering the firearm. I do plan on asking them if I can pay for any repairs to other parts of the gun if ever needed.
I would shoot the CC a lot first to make sure everything checks out before I would alter it. I'm going to start saving so if it happens I will certainly update this post.

I've been thinking about it and am looking forward to hearing what they have to say .... if something goes wrong with a modified component I can see them not warrantying it .... if a component that has nothing to do with the mod, I don't see a valid rational for them not taking care of it .... best example I can think of right off : my decades old Ruger Redhawk 44 mag revolver comes with the same lifetime warranty of a Henry .... early on I had the barrel Mag-na-ported ... a couple of years ago something went wrong with a spring sear spring .... sent it back to Ruger .... the ports cut into the barrel are obvious, they never said a work, replaced the spring and shipped it back for free

With how well Henry has treated me and my conversations with Anthony I have a feeling they would tell me any warranty work besides the barrel would be covered, but I would offer to pay for any warranty work if need be.
It's great to hear how Ruger took care of you.
