Competitive Shooting

Post by rkh405 » Sat Sep 21, 2024 7:04 pm

Recently my kids pooled their money and bought me a 44mag big boy rifle for fathers day/ birthday. Is there any competitive shooting that I could use the rifle for? Cowboy action shooting is out, cant afford the aditional guns I would need.

Not sure what area of the country you’re in but there is some places out here in Colorado and Wyoming thar shoot levergun silhouette. Might check your area for that.

I'm joining with BigAl in suggesting you look into silhouette shooting. There are probably a couple governing bodies, since the NRA seems to have lost it's leading position for many of the different competitions. I'd look up your state association, or whatever your state has, and ask them what is open for someone with a lever action. There may even be some non-standardized stuff happening at local R&P clubs in your area.
Once you get your feet wet and shoot a match or two, I'm betting there will be a whole host of others that you find interesting.

Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette is the obvious one.
44mag will be suitable for both the rifle event and the pistol caliber rifle match.
Not many modifications allowed so an out of the box factory rifle can be more than competitive even at the highest levels.

You might be able to find somewhere local that shoots it through this link, if not at least contact details to find the closest range that does.
