Henry 38-55 buy or no buy?

Post by larry7293 » Wed Mar 27, 2024 6:12 pm

Seriously considering purchasing the Henry024 in 38-55. Does anyone have any positive or negative comments about the rifle before I make the plunge?
thanks in advance.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I love the caliber, but I don't care for the Henry personally. It's the god awful carved up stock that I can't abide with.
If they offered it in the steel model with the CCH with some nice figured non carved stock, then I might have an interest.

I have a Marlin Cowboy in this caliber and it's one of my favorites.

Only problem with the Marlin Randy and I have one to is price. They are insane. Just came from GB looking at them. I also like the fact that Henry's bore diameter isnt as fat as the Marlin. I had to have an oversize expander plug made for my dies for the Marlin

Right, this one shoots the .380 the best, I have mostly .379's at the moment and shoot just fine for my main purpose.
Those came from a buy out I came across even before I even owned one.
I do need to order some more, don't want to run out.
I use a set of RCBS Cowboy dies that came from the above mentioned and I haven't had any issues.

Those cowboy dies came out after I bought my Lyman. I think I got mine from Buffalo Arms in Idaho

Yes I do reload, which helps a lot, and I have all the components to load with, including large rifle primers which are pretty scarce right now.
